Bruce had put the final front up. The words were enough to stop Dick's attack. The regrets he felt over the years. The understanding and seeing what it had all turned into. The same shadow follow in the path of another man. No longer existed in their presents.
Two men arguing over a larger matter than themselves. The two cities they protected. So similar, yet different. Two figures sometimes seen as hope and doom. Stop was all it took to hold him off for another moment.
Waiting, expecting another attack. Always on the receiving end of defense it seemed.
The tone of Bruce's voice, key to the change in pace between them. A dangerous level. But then....Bruce's next action caught him off guard. An extended hand on his shoulder. Something long forgotten between the two.
The praise from Bruce's feel upon open ears. Listening this time rather than attacking back.
Dick did not interrupt Bruce. He knew there was more to come. The tide of his anger still loomed like the storms over a calm ocean. Waiting for one reason to cause a hurricane.
The words continued. Letting them settle and thinking it all over again. His fists slightly unclenched. Though there was a lingering annoyance over being pushed and tested in such away. Attacking him was easy for Bruce. He knew Dick too well. Which made it all that much harder to keep from snapping.
The hand removed from his shoulder. A half smile on his mentor's face, he saw Batman before him where others would not.
The chance to take a swing at him was very tempting at that time.
"You've always been an ass," Dick commented. His tone lighter. The anger still there, but reining himself in from his fiery.
"I could take you down easily," the confidence showed mildly as he spoke. "Though I don't think Alfred would appreciate us turning his organized hall into a dojo. And we still have company we should not keep waiting any longer than we have."
Dick demeanor changing slight to another controlled gear of his personality. With holding his anger once again. Saving it for another time. A trait he had learned easily through the bat-family.
"I'll take a rain check and we can continue this in the cave another time," Dick replied. Half joking over the matter, but very much so meaning what he said.
He wanted the chance to take down his mentor a peg or two if he could.

Bruce saw the thoughts playing in Dick’s mind as surely as if he’d spoken them aloud. The forced patience, the slow relaxing, but anger and wariness kept Dick at bay. He saw the urge to take a swing, the concerns not of what others would think but how it would affect them, and the not easy decision to refrain. It was Dick responded that it dawned on Bruce that he didn’t know that the relationship between them really was. He’d never been a father, and had never really tried to me. He’d been a master, a mentor, a trainer, an example, occasionally a voice of reason, and, on very rare occasions, played the role of a supporter.
Bruce realized that he blamed Dick for leaving Barbara. It had never been a matter of Bruce thinking he should choose Dick’s mate, but the departure left a small hole in the relationship he’d had with Batgirl. He recognized that it hadn’t been Dick’s responsibility to provide Barbara with more of a reason to be around, but her approach, her attitude, and her resolve were different than either Bruce’s or Dick’s. Bruce was Batman to wreak vengeance on those who preyed on the weakness of others, regardless of what he said. Dick had started off on that path, but eventually made his own way. Barbara has started from s simple desire to help, to be effective, and to be good enough. It was pure and refreshing, and had helped him to see more than just vengeance. But, the idea that she had a responsibility to him, or how he felt, was ridiculous. Still, he’d blamed Dick, and that had to be put in the past.
“All talk and no action?” Bruce chided. "It’s very easy to say you can take me down. I’ll take the rain check, though. There have been many revelations tonight; it would be a wasted evening if we didn’t capitalize on them. But I will kick your scrawny ass again, just like old times, when that check is cashed.”
Bruce moved passed him and opened the door to the dining room. He was surprised to see Kori missing, but music and laughter from the kitchen took care of any reason he might have for concern. Alfred might be older and more dignified, but he was easily as capable of seeing through the layers of a situation to get at the core. Strike that; Alfred was better, but all too often Bruce didn’t want to hear it. He stepped through the door and held it for Dick.
“Crisis delayed, if not completely diverted.”
His eyes went to Selina, one of the beautiful woman he'd ever met. Knowing she had the grace and flexibility of Catwoman only made her more interesting. He’d have to find out who, apart from Ted, had trained her. After he got to know her a little better
“I owe you an apology, Selina,” he said in a serious voice. “I have presumed upon you more than one should on –“ he paused, worrying about overstepping his bounds and, at the same time, not willing to undercut himself either. “—someone I find so very remarkable.”
He glanced toward the kitchen, then back to Selina and offered with a half-smile. “I see that she’s gone to bother the help.”
* * * * *
Alfred smiled as Kori’s indefatigable and accepted her invitation to be pulled out into the middle of the kitchen. He watched as she began to dance. While he greatly appreciated her form, and even memorized several parts of her anatomy, he managed to be discrete in his girl-watching. He had not been fully comfortable with her attempt to get him to dance like she did; he found it lacked some indefinable sense. Instead, he took her hand and pulled into a variation of Salsa dancing that matched the music perfectly. He thought she didn't take long to find his rhythm and cadence.
“Master Bruce like to tell people that I’ve taught him to dance. When he begins to master it, I might find those accolades a little more comforting.”

Selina laughed and giggled with Kory as she girl prattled on, her eyes lighting up at the thought of them all golfing, or even going to the spa. As much as she was engaged with Kory, chatting with the woman on this or that, part of her mind was preoccupied; in another world. But one of the benefits of being a socialite, and Catwoman, was that you could multi-task. And do it while not offending others. Even as Kory stood and went to check on their meal, and the men were off ....more than likely arguing, no doubt, Selina sipped at her wine. There was so much to think about, and the fact that her glass of red was so ...indulgent, was one of the few things keeping her rooted to her seat, instead of out, and back to her home. Somewhere safe. Somewhere where she knew exactly what she was, and what to do with it. So as she now occupied Dick's vacated spot, alone at the rather exquisite banquet table, she shrugged. It wasn't a moment or two later when she could hear the peals of laughter from Kory, and it seemed, Alfred, and then the creak of a door opening.
Following the two men as they exited the room, she was silent. It was odd, being with Batman, and Nightwing, formerly Robin, in Bruce Wayne's home. So when Bruce apologized to her, she was mildly confused. "Apologize? For....oh." Even as he worded things nicely, she couldn't...exactly get what he was meaning. "Are you talking about the four-some, or the fact we've known who the other was...for a while, and have been playing this cat-and-mouse game?" Yes, she was being blunt. And while she normally wouldn't attribute boldness to alcohol, she was sick of the cloak and dagger. And the whispering. And the looks between father, and son.
"If anything, I'm surprised it took you this long. And don't blame Dick. He's nothing but a gentleman. Which, considering the facts, you are as well. Nice of you to both offer a shower to a woman in need," she teased both me, her eyes meeting each in turn.
"So." She paused, her glass raised in toast, "What's next for us..."

Entering the domain of Alfred. It had the warm and delicious aroma what a kitchen should have. Should be. Fancy no less than expected in a much fancy house. It hardly seemed overstated. Just on point. Never on Tamaran had there been homes like this. Titans Tower was something else entirely… After the meeting of food that was awaiting. The music filled the air. Just enough. It wasn't blaring, like a sixteen year olds room… If Kory even knew what that was like… No, it was just enjoy to relax… Unwind from whatever blows were possibly just walls apart. Taking a breath. Space… Space… Do not surround… Let him come… Was those not some of the words, Donna had expressed.. They made sense, even though Kory still couldn't not worry. Feel some concern. For Dick. For Bruce… Happily in some efforts to get Alfred to dance… He didn't so easily pass up… No… He changed it up… Took the lead… Impressive was hardly the right word. Felt turns and moves, she'd never fully felt… Now Kory had taken some lesson… You know the general thing one would do when wanting to fit in on Earth… If Kory couldn't be on Tamaran, there was no other place she was want to be, than Earth. Her home and even in small ways of it… This could make her feel less of a stranger or an unwanted guest to a planet… No, felt more human.
"Wow, Alfred! You know you remind me a little of my K'Norfka, but he did not have your impressive dance moves… I've not seen Bruce dance before, I did not know he could, but Dick… Dick is a wonderful dancer… Did he partake in your lessons?"
Whilst in the midst of the salsa. Expressed the shear joy of it, especially how unexpected it had been and impressive. Referring to one of her guards back on tamaran. He had the kind gentle grace as Alfred or least that comfort Alfred seemed to give anyone. Though, Alfred defiantly had the better moves. Spin, Red curls bounces out and around. Grabbed a rose from the table… Teeth… Not lips.. Ouch! Taking it back in her hand. Going with the moves before mildly surprised Bruce did dance. Kory had always thought, but hardly expected… Now, she wanted to see Bruce dance… Not by force of course… Surely Dick's skills, as Kory commented having partaken in many dances with him. Somehow imagining a tiny Grayson learning to dance… Too cute, but he was always adorable. Handsome… Oh, so handsome. Oh, X'hal there goes her knees.. As the bubbly giggles seeped from her pretty lips. Without Sunglasses. Kory was joyed to simply be Kory, put tamaranean aside. She was more than just that now. Always was… As soon the dancing stopped.. Food was the main source for this room. Kory happily offered her help. Whether stirring. That would lead to less disasters. Checking on ovens. Taste testing if need be. Giving Alfred the perfect signal… She was learning to do more cooking, so any little tip she'd happily soak up. Filling out more on the list in regarding Dick's favourite meals.
"So you sure this is all I need? Hmmm, Alfred!… I sure hope they'll be ok! Caring for each other, should be what matters and I know that they both do… I know, this is more than just that, it runs deeper… More complex for my understanding… Its half reason I feel those questions… Why am I here? Dick means the world to me."
As Kory's orange finger flipped through the collected recipes. There were enough to be sure.. Not that it would give Dick more reasons not to come here. Just help make Bludhaven even more homely. Even if he officially wasn't living with her. Wouldn't admit what was reality and what she knew was in his heart. Kory wasn't going to complain about it, no just let Dick find his way and see what was in front of him… Dropping a little notion of her own desires, maybe… She was only human after all… Was that her first real use of that term? Though in her simple manner. With Dick on her mind, it wasn't easy ignoring what was taking place down the hall. Humbly just talking, because talking felt good. Even if it was nonsense and an ear was good. Kory expressed the concern for them both, but somethings were deeper. They say she wouldn't understand. Understand as if being tamaranean dropped her IQ. Maybe she was a little not in this loop, it wasn't hers to be exactly part of… This was a family. One she felt little belonging, merely jaded eyes and questions. Least from its leader, but her soul reason would always be Dick. Not that Kory wanted to go lengths to impress Bruce and nor did it really bother her if he never took a good out look on her, but it wouldn't stop her from showing respect. If there was a break in the ice, she wouldn't let him fall, drown nor freeze. She was maybe a danger, but she wasn't his threat. Fingers played with the petals of the rose. It smelt wonderful.
"I can't help feeling I'm the thorn. If that is all I am, I wish not to be, but I won't simply fly away! I can't! I won't allow it again!"
Openly commented in simply the truth of the emotions she felt, not that she was one to just assume that was at all entirely how Bruce or anyone had intended. It was simply a feeling. A feeling if it had been misguided, she'd happily reprimand it. As her finger pricked at the thorn just slightly. She would heal soon, after the minor drop of blood, not human blood, same energy that shot out of her starbolts. A sweet drop of pink… A thorn could always be removed, but Kory didn't feel the need to run. In all her life, she never gave up. Even though she had been stretched to limits, where death would have been the peaceful way and even at times had thought about it. Kory stuck through with it. Time and Place, freedom was hers from the moment she was born. The right and she already had been forced from Dick's arms once, not something Kory was going to allow again. Not so easily and only if it was what he truly wanted. Even now all she wanted was his touch, it didn't take much to feel his heart. Wholesome, like wholegrains she'd playfully say at the breakfast table. Already now, spirits were picked up again. Smile. Colour and light to her cheeks. Every sign she was deep in love… Was she too deep? Maybe… Over her head, naturally she was sure… She couldn't help it anymore. Offering of course to help Alfred to plate up the dishes… Arranging the food of choice… Kory laughed under her breath at her creation…
"It kind of looks like Bruce caught in a wind storm!!! Shall I take these out for you, Alfred?"
Meaning it in the most sincere way as she pointed to her dish, after making different kinds of faces. Smiley ones. Angry ones. Even a bat… Laughing a little, before settling back down and taking a couple of plates in hand. She was stealth enough not to drop them and be helpful. Motioning for the door to the dining room, which by the sounds the pack had returned. Following or being followed by Alfred. If of course they hadn't been met with a crossroads. As her heart thudded to see Dick again. To be assured he was unharmed, feeling almost like she had Donna's butterflies, butterflies with their own butterflies. If she can tackle gigantic beasts. This was a breeze…. Kory's eyes already fleeing in search and a rush to her energy stream! With a smile and her bubbly self.
"Thank, X'hal…. We can call off the fire brigade!"
Came from the fiery tamaranean princess, once she'd come back into the dining room, certainly missing any interesting conversations. Playing off any potential warnings, that could have come, had disaster really struck. All seemed settled in the battle of bats and birds. Maybe they could reside in nests side by side, without trying to tear each other down.

Alfred smiled at Miss Koriand’r’s reaction to the dancing. Admittedly, he didn’t look the role of a salsa dancer, but he hadn’t been old for his entire life, and dance was one of the things that kept him young, as it were. As they turned back to the cooking, he was initially wary of the young lady’s assistance, but she was careful, did as directed, and asked intelligent questions, all of which led the butler into trusting her a little more in the kitchen.
“Often, it isn’t the intensity of the flavor that makes the dish stand out, but the interplay of several subtle flavors across the pallet. Any chef worth his salt will have his own way of doing things and his own signature taste, though. Develop it as you go, and make food the way you enjoy it. As you begin to understand your own pallet better, others will come to appreciate your cooking all the more. However, tonight, I would be most pleased if you would continue following my lead, as this is my kitchen,” he added with one raised eyebrow and a mostly hidden grin.
Alfred listened to Miss Koriand’r’s concerns, interpreting what he thought she meant. “I would not presume too much with Master Bruce and Miss Selina. They are both very independent people and, as you say, complex.” He avoided saying more on the topic, as he was too close to Master Bruce, and owed him too much loyalty, to give away his inner thoughts.
He listened with sympathy as she described her feeling for Master Richard. In many ways, he thought the young man was trying to please too many people, but he was also aware of Master Richard’s capacity for caring and his sense of personal responsibility. It would be unlike him to get in over his head, and he navigated the waters of friendship and camaraderie much more adeptly than Master Bruce ever would. He wasn’t sure exactly what she meant by flying away again, but if Miss Koriand’r wanted him to know, she would explain it to him in due time.
“If Master Bruce thought you a ‘thorn,’ Miss Koriand’r, you would not be here. I would prefer not to speak for him one way or another, but I believe that if he did not think you had value, he would never have invited you to a private gathering. He can be difficult to understand at times. Personally, I find him worth the effort, but I tend to be rather biased.”
Alfred smiled as Miss Koriand’r made faces, and at her assessment of how they looked in the plate. He nodded as she suggested bringing the plates out, and was happy to see that she had selected correct plates for the appetizer. He nodded for her to lead the way and followed behind with the food himself, and the proper means to serve it. He was somewhat relieved to see some of the earlier tension had left Bruce. Perusal of the security video later in the evening would tell him what had happened. Bruce would likely review them once as well, before they were destroyed.

"What are you talking about? I've had some pretty good matches against you. Especially that one time Alfred informed you of a meeting and you left before I could finish it off," Dick commented.
Ir was not unlike Dick to act a bit cocky over his own abilities. And most certainly when his mentor wanted to challenge him. He was not one to back away from one.
Following Bruce back toward the dining area, he was feeling the tides shifting for the better. Maybe it was just with age he had learned how to hold his temper. When at one point he might have just stormed out.
Only moments ago, he had been ready to throw a fist at Bruce in the hall. He really did have the guts to try something like that against his mentor.
As they entered the room, Dick had taken notice right away that Kory was not longer in her seat, and Selina had since moved from her own. Bruce's explanation over where Kory was, was enough to inform him.
Knowing Kory, she was finding a way to keep the night from turning sour. It wasn't like he hadn't expected something like this. Well...maybe not quite along those lines as it had been drawn out.
"Alfred's probably on his way in with the food. Why let it go to waste," Dick replied.

“Keep telling yourself that,” Bruce said with a smile as he walked in with Dick. He appreciated the way Dick had handled himself and how he let his anger shift into competition. Bruce had said what he’d needed to, and hopefully Dick understood where he was at. He would need to talk with Kory at some point, but the time had come to let moods relax. Besides, that was a conversation he wanted to have in a more private setting.
Bruce walked toward Selina and reached out to stroke her cheek. “There was no foursome, in a sexual manner, and not for the cat-and-mouse game; that has had rather memorable moments.. Nevermind. I did what I need to do, and you played your role exquisitely. Thank you.”
He smiled at her teasing, remembering his time with her in China. He’d enjoyed the time and the circumstance, though he had his own limits. He wouldn’t have taken advantage of her, even now, if she wasn’t aware of it. It was a line he wouldn’t cross.
“We eat.”
On cue, Alfred and Koriand’r entered the room. He led Selina back to the table and helped her into her seat. “Alfred has gone to great lengths to make this a meal to remember. My antics probably won’t be remembered through the second course.”
He turned to Alfred, with a glance at Koriand’r. “You can’t keep her,” he said to the butler. “You’ll have to find your own date; she’s with Dick.”

He was still speaking riddles, but that was expected. Or unexpected. He was a master at saying so little, with so many words. So with a rather pinched smile, she allowed him to touch her cheek. At the moment, she was thankful for the wine; she was sure she may have already vacated the dining room, and the Wayne properties already. A situation that could be utterly awkward, had taken a turn for the better.
"Unless you had snuck a few others into the study with you and Dick, I doubt that you'd be done that quickly, Mister Wayne," she teased him, her mind flitting back to what she could remember from China; her cheeks darkening. She'd made a mess of herself, and he'd done nothing less than be a gentleman. As they both walked back to the table, and sat, Selina was silent, offering a smile in gratitude as he sat down as well.

The kitchen was quite big, but the company made it all feel very cosy. Comforting. As Kory carefully went about her way in anyway she could be, helpful. It certainly was nice and put her mind in the more positive thinking. Not that Kory was at all running from any of it, she didn't consider herself much the running away type… Escaping the past was vital sometimes to exist in the present. Live in the moment and there was no way Kory could leave Dick high or dry. Not when she was needed, not that he wasn't capable. He was exceptional to say the least… There were flaws. As Kory's cheeks glowed as her hands fixed up some of the food. The bubbling. Simmering sounds were soothing. Kory half felt the tingling on her neck, as if for a moment a reminder of Dick… Happy memory. It had been so many months now, maybe a year since she had returned here… This very kitchen. It was almost funny at the sound of the fridge door, but she'd have it no other way… Now, was where she wanted to be. Where there had been hope… In all things she had lost… It had been gained and more, in ways filled her senses. Where she had been homeless, she was now found, maybe there was always a little more, but wasn't that the joy in the hardship of life… It was not just shear physical strength, that made her strong. She carried a great deal of hope, it was natural for it to effect others around her. Hopefully more positively.
"Wow, that's really beautiful, thank-you Alfred… You know Dick was right, you are insightful… I'm going to put this on my fridge… Yes, Sir. I'm more than happy too, really! There's so much to learn."
There was probably better words to describe, but Kory was left in a little moment of awe. Though all in the manor that she very much listened to everything Alfred said regarding food and pretty much making it you're own. Especially about others enjoying it, which was defiantly a part of cooking she was really enjoying…. Bringing together. Her chin rested momentarily on her palm, as her elbow rested on the table. Alfred just oozed such warmth and light. Radiated positiveness, it was easy. He was open, kind and respectful. Even if he would tell you what was up. People like that could be a dime in a dozen… Smiling softly in mentioning Dick, of course not to suggest Kory had doubted, she was hardly ever the judging type clearly and generally Dick was right, although insightful was maybe on the tip of the iceberg… Fiddling with pad she was given all the recipes she could play with and found a blank page. She was better with her memory than people would probably think, writing down some of Alfred's words. Remarking it would probably end up in a special spot on her fridge. Kory was like Alfred, positive, she was tamaranean it was by nature… Straightening up a little at Alfred raised a brow and commented this was his kitchen… He was very much right and Kory wasn't one to step on toes. She very much respected him, especially his honesty. She valued honesty quite highly or more really she just naturally expected it. She innocent in the sense that she probably expected it too much in humans, who many were bound by lies. It could be hard to swim through those kind of sharks. It wasn't naiveness, it was her shear believe that there was righteousness in anybody… Offering Alfred a glad smile, because there was a lot she could soak up simply following his lead. Observing. Always room to learn. Most of all, the company was very welcoming. The dining room had almost felt that slight coaching feeling or any second you were going to end up like that pear, least Kory could recall it was a pear on that add that was dragged off stage. Putting a silly analogy seemed fitting, but here easy. Less feeling Alfred would push her out of the kitchen.
"Actually. I was referring to Bruce and Dick…. Bruce and Selina, that is something else entirely… Not really my place… Though wouldn't be very me, if I did not offer hope for them as well… "
Not to say Alfred had thought completely wrongly, it certainly could have sounded like she had meant Bruce and Selina, but she mostly meant the boys. That had run deep before she came to Earth, but oddly knew of it well. Whether it was favourable that Dick had shared so much, but talking to someone ultimately felt good and she was probably easier to talk to. Kory wasn't probably one to keep secrets, but she wasn't one to just to go out intentionally to tell someone the juicy details… That would completely underline the soul purpose of trust…. Though Kory could nod in agreement, that Bruce and Selina. Complex. Kory didn't know them enough really to put much sway on it, not that meant there weren't on ways of being considered friends… Though offering a half reassuring smile, that would without a doubt offer hope. Support. It was hard enough with all the criticism this world placed, let alone it seemed humans put on themselves. She wouldn't add to that, she couldn't play that part… Even if she knew how too… As her hands steadily helped with plating, listening to Alfred's words. Again, with such compassion. Enlightenment. That Kory was half left wondering how she'd even contemplated such doubts. As the showing of the glow growing at the corners of her smile, as topped of with some of the garnishing. Not over the top as she had in the past, she was guilty of making it look more like a garden… Who didn't like a garden? Apparently not always entirely eatable… At Alfred's last words, Kory stopped the decorating and her hand momentarily came at his. In gesture of most of all gratitude and to assure his opinion very much mattered. That it had value, it came from a good place.
"You're right, Alfred… I shouldn't think so doubtfully. Thank-you for reminding me… Think more positively. You think it, feel it. In that way its usually more likely to come back to you… I'm sure Bruce is worth every effort. I have great respect for him…. Who wouldn't!"
When he was right, he certainly was most of the time. Kory was glad to admit it. She was glad she had come here. It was almost a new sense of peace. Naturally when she felt less of it, she would search for it. The light so to speak. Shaking her head at even at the doubtful thoughts she had, or mixed emotions. The invitation was an opening as Kory had originally thought, to potentially cross bridges. This hardly had anything to do with her… At all, she was here for support… Not to be the course. Not that she would be overly brought down if someone didn't see her in such a positive light, but she wouldn't want to be at all one to step on toes. She could only hope to radiate positiveness. Which somehow for a moment she'd almost forgotten, but at Alfred's words, she certainly felt it again. It wasn't something she tried to be… It was something she very much was. As Kory enlightened in that way of being… Offering it, you'd be most likely to receive it, not that it was the soul purpose… To get anything. It was hardly really about what she could gain. It just was the better way… Negative. Hate. She just hardly wanted anything to do with it, not that she couldn't dislike things, but to truly let such things cloud your mind… She knew first hand in how it could corrupt. She wouldn't be her sister. She would not be Komand'r… She was Koriand'r. Could she have a temper. She certainly could, but rather than keep a hold of it, she could let it go. With the lighter feeling in her own shoulders. Kory offered a sweet peck on Alfred's cheek, in added gratitude. She wasn't surrounded with such nurturing and wise figures. She'd be foolish not to take such comforting words. Advice. Not to play on his age, but she lack the quote on quote real family. Least any still alive that cared. Not that Kory pinned, she found family very much in her friends…. Motioned back to the plates at hand, just as Kory smiled in her words in relation in respecting Bruce… Most people would or at the very least Batman.
Kory was almost more than pumped to get back to the dining room, than moments before. This was all good. A little hardship, but sometimes you had to in order to get to the other side. Generally the better side… With plates perfectly balance… Her clumsy moments were few and far between. She was stealth. With some natural grace, she had been born royal… Not that it stopped her from partaking of serving food… When you've been on that other side, that wasn't exactly the better side… You learn you don't want to rule anybody… It was good to see all four familiar faces again. Bruce and Selina, in some exchange it was no doubt sweet… Of course an added burst at her seems to see Dick back in the room. Eased and both raced her pulse. She had enough discipline not to replay that youtube clip of the lion and man embrace out in person and simply a passing image. Maybe lingered a little… Which yes, it was quite a comparison… Added to Richard the Lion tamer, only she was a lioness with a slightly different roar. Though the joy was written on her smile. It could almost be like an Avril Lavigne song as Kory finally closed the distance. Helping to put the plates on table and very much Dick near. Notions very much she wouldn't mind putting his hand in her pocket… Find a corner to put him in and kiss him without a sound… Over and over again. That was the forever she certainly could do with, she could think simply and proudly… Just at any motion to touch. To embrace, because that was usually the intention… Though Bruce's words cut through momentarily. Not in the sense they hit any nerve, because there was no need to justify… There was never any need, because what they had came naturally. With every beam that strung in her body. Though it was jest and… Oh, she could jest, but it was not a passing feeling. Nothing about this was passing… Never will. If that was tragic, then that would be hers to bare… But this was very much reality… This very much was what was real…
"My apologises if I made you think otherwise… Its usually not my intention to come across coy…. X'hal knows I'm satisfied. Beyond measure… Though there is a very nice lady that works at the orphanage, that I'm sure I can introduce you."
Kory extended the words kindly, with of course with some touch of jest, but even in her amusing ways, Kory generally spoke with honesty. Her eyes playfully and knowingly at Dick. As if it wasn't obvious that she was here with Dick… She was one that would shout her emotions from the highest building top for all to hear, much to Dick's delight at times, not that she literally would, but close. Joked humbly as if she could be shy. Her words could be spun however it was easiest to take, but generally in meaning Dick very much made her happy. In every way he could. She needn't another man to make her happy as he made her feel, that might be far more than even she could bare… Before kindly offering to introduce Alfred to a nice lady Kory did know, well she could probably think of a few nice ladies she'd met. Smiling kindly though she was sure Alfred could meet a nice lady on his own, if he really wanted to. Though happy to help, if need be. She was always happy to see others finding love. Offering Dick a sweet look, before gently embracing him, with her eyes very much in search with concern.
"Are you ok?"
Asked not loudly, but gently. Not to hide, but she was searching for the answers in him. As her hand for a moment came to low at each cheek, nearer to his jawline. Fingers lightly at the sides of his neck. Almost felt his pulse. Potentially not has quick as it had been. Smiling subtly… They were a team when all things considered. Not just because they were titans. Gesturing maybe a light simply kiss. Reassurance if needed. Hands fell from his cheeks. His shoulders. Passed his shirt collar. Before reaching for his hand, in a comforting gentle caress. With added warmth from her energy, but very much safe from any second degree burns. Not much sooner to return back to her seat with Dick beside… Some food would defiantly be good.

“Miss Koriand’r, while I do appreciate the thought, I would prefer to find my own way regarding personal relationships. While Master Bruce may seem to take up all of my time, I assure that I am not chaste.”
He didn’t add that personal relationships in the past had left him little room to explore relations on too deep a level. He had known love, and while he didn’t rule out the possibility of a relationship of that caliber again, he found mutual trust and attraction to be a better foundation at this juncture of his life. Truth, though, was often mired by the number of secrets that he help and could not share. He believed that not even Master Bruce was aware of all the secrets the butler held, not that Master Bruce needed to know.
“I dare say, Sir, that if Master Richard had not already caught her in his net, I might have a chance in ensnaring the lovely Miss Koriand’r, but alas, I am too late, and I would not think to intrude on their happiness."
A glance and wink toward Master Richard and Miss Koriand’r was meant to assure them that he was just playing along with Master Bruce’s comment. As he turned to his attention to serving the appetizers, he noticed that Selina was quieter than usual. As he went around the table, he paused next to her.
“Miss Selina, you look radiant as usual. If there is anything I can do for you, please let me know.”
He believed that her relationship with Bruce was not going as she wished, and while there was little he could do about that, if he could find some way to cheer her up without being obvious, he would gladly do so.

Kory had beaten him to the draw as they all saw back down to the table. Alfred was already set to serve them.
The light banter between all of them was much welcomed. It was better than the earlier conversations that had been going on between them. And Dick was grateful for that.
At Alfred's comment and wink, Dick gave a slight smirk. He knew the older man was playing along. He knew already well enough.
As they were seated, Kory spoke up. He knew she had probably been holding off on that question the entire time their voices in the hall had gotten louder. He was very glad to see that she hadn't been tempted to jump out of her seat and stop the bickering.
Kory would often try to play the peace keeper in Titan Tower. Only adding to his reasons he loved her so much.
He leaned in towards her and lightly kissed her.
"Yes, everything is alright. We just needed to have a word," Dick replied. His tone slightly hushed.
He didn't want to draw attention to them as he and Kory held a side conversation from the others.

Bruce reached out and took Selina’s hand on top of the table, then cleared his throat to get the attention of the others. He waited several seconds for them to finish whatever they were talking about, and noted that Alfred kept serving, but didn’t allow himself to be a distraction to any of the four. His own attention was caught up in a memory from his childhood, sometime after his parents had been murdered. He had been asking about his parents and had felt the butler was being evasive. When he confronted Alfred about the perceived evasion, Alfred had answered him by promising that he would never withhold any information Bruce needed to know. To the best of his knowledge, Alfred had never broken that promise, though there was considerable flexibility in what Alfred believed Bruce needed to know. He wondered how long the butler had known what he had just learned tonight, and what other secrets he held. At the end of the day, though, Alfred had kept good on his word, and if there was something Bruce needed to know that he didn’t, Alfred managed to come through more often than not. There were many things about Alfred that he didn’t know, but the man’s loyalty to him was greatly appreciated.
“I think I’ve taken up enough of the evening with drama and innuendo. It may have taken me a while to see the complete picture, but I understand that all of us here know who we are in our other guises. That will make things simpler, but I need to caution everyone here that the secrets we hold could mean the lives of others. Guard them.”
He knew he was largely speaking to the choir concerning their identities, but he had learned long ago that if something “goes without saying” then it needs to be said.
“Alfred has created yet another masterpiece for us tonight, along with Kori’s assistance, I believe. Let us enjoy it in good health.”
He looked up to Kori as he picked up his fork. “We will have to talk another day. But, for now, thank you for coming. You are a rare individual, and if you are even half the person Dick believes you to be, you deserve my respect.”

As much as she wanted to feel relieved about the whole awkward revelation of the night, his hand wasn't quelling such emotion. Instead it was drudging up such unfamiliarities it was causing her a near panic. Not that anyone could see. Nor perceive. She was as cool as a cucumber, despite the rapid beating of her heart, and the vise-like grip on her chest. Maybe, just maybe Batman with the Bruce Wayne fop mask on might notice, but she doubted anyone else held such keen observational skill. But she'd always be able to pan it off as ..something else. Adrenaline, for one.
Sending a quick pulse to his hand with a squeeze of her own, Selina smiled at his dinner toast. His words were true, and deadly honest. If any of them were compromised, it would bring them all down like dominos. Descretion wasn't just mandatory, it was imperative. So after his words, with his free hand she would raise her wineglass in a silent toast to each of them, her eyes meeting Dick's, and then Kori's silently before she sipped, and replaced her glass on the table, curious to see if Bruce would relinguish his hold on her hand.

There was always more of an ease once Kory was back in the company of Dick. She soothed him and he very much did the same. She preferred him closer than further way, it wasn't easy when he did desire space, but she gave it. Now was not that time, as Kory's cheeks had very much lit. Nighty sense up and down her arms. They differed from Batman and Catwoman. They were not the masks they bore, they were more than that. As Titans had always been more than a team of heroes and masks. They were friends. Family. That trust had sometime betrayed them, but had also made them stronger. Where there had been no one else, they had a place to turn to, they had someone that listened. To share and most importantly to grow. To be themselves. To put it lightly, a lot of memories. Which it had been a few years since Dick had taken Kory to Gotham the first time, to show her around and introduce her. Such as the mansion. Officially meet Bruce. Alfred, hadn't greatly changed. If anything his charm only increased. As Kory kindly smiled and nodded in response to finding a lady. She certainly believed he had no problems, not that there was any harm in offering. But, you know Kory very much loved love. She also loved her friends, but Alfred didn't seem unhappy. There was always some element of surprising positiveness, she quite enjoyed.
Kory's hands finally reached Dick, holding his arm lightly and a smile also engulfed her lips as did for Dick at Alfred's rather praising words for their couple. Although Kory could question on the net, given she would never wish to rule any one and defiantly not make Dick love her. X'hal, knows that hadn't been entirely over night. Kory could think humbly, amusingly. At how cute he had been, how business he had been, that it was unprofessional for teammates to date, but he had come to accept what they had felt. Allowed that risk, it hadn't completely blown up in their faces… But if he was hers, then she was very much his, in the sense of the heart and love. Felt the tip of her nose nuzzle his cheek at the mention of the happiness. Bringing the warmth at her cheeks, from her heart. That had been the truth. Least the base of their relationship… Was happiness. Planting a kiss on his kiss, he was still shy at times for PDA, but Kory well. She really didn't care who knew, that she loved him. She never felt any shame. He was a wonderful friend and he was her best friend. Kory was open to a lot, but few that knew more. No one knew more than him, he had been by her side through a lot of it. They had been through just as much if not more, together.
"Gratitudes, most kindly Alfred!"
Simply Kory sweetly said in response, not speaking for both of them, but Kory was assured Dick very much felt the same. Offering a bright smile. There was little that could be thrown at them, that they couldn't find a way… Which soon hadn't taken them long before they found their seats. Much probably to the sweet touch of Dick helping her with her chair, as he had down many times before. Assuring he was very much back and found. As her heart fluttered in varies ranges, but defiantly felt more at ease with the lighter tone. Dick back beside her… Whatever had been said between the men… It had been a start of some element of peace, Kory could only hope. As Kory smiled more simply, knowing his attention was very much back on her even in her smaller attempts, but didn't act on her desire to run after him when he had left… Though like she said before coming, this wasn't about her. This was about the peace. Crossing bridges. As talking things through had gotten Dick and Kory in better places whenever something came between them. With that added sense of assurance, when Dick leaned in and met her lips. Her hand toiled at his collar lightly, to hold him a little more than a moment. Very much knowing that had been bravery on his part and she very much loved it when he took those risks.
"Well, that certainly is a start… That is progress?"
Kory said lowly in her positive response, least her eyes stayed on him and questioned if it had been least more a step back. Rather than a step forward. As Kory smiled simply. It least seemed it hadn't gone terribly wrong. If Bruce couldn't always be the bigger man as Dick had needn't, Dick could be. Her finger came to linger under Dick's chin, there was little he would lie to her about… He had been clear as day when she had first really seen him, it didn't matter that she didn't know his name or that she spoke an entirely different language. As Kory kissed him lightly again, maybe a little deeper, but she wasn't about to make him regret his bravery or make him blush as she had countless times before… Until, the address was made by Bruce. Hardly even realised he had gotten back in his seat and seemingly so well beside Selina. Maybe it was hope. Kory smiled softly with a hint of amusement to Dick, almost clearly her own throat. Getting back to reality they were in fact on a date with another couple.. A familiar couple. Which at Bruce's words. Just an extra familiar couple. She really didn't want it to seem she was un trustworthy. Kory was honest, but she was also loyal. She hadn't been just someone Dick had told. She was someone he talked to. Someone that had listened. Not just someone that loved him unconditionally, but cared about him. She had taught him, that you didn't have to do everything alone. But she did understand the importance of such secrets. She could recall familiar explanation when Dick and Donna had sat her down shortly after Kory had joined the team. Thus they were the ones that dubbed her Starfire. Anywhere else in the universe she was known as Koriand'r.
"I do sincerely apologise if I had spoken out of turn, there does seem to be more peace among us, now. Which is a wonderful thing… I certainly will guard the secrets as I would guard my friends."
Feeling partially responsible. The last thing Kory ever wished to do, was cause pain. Conflict, even if she valued honesty. It had to be natural. Though it probably was bound to whether or not she had, but that was beside point. Kory still felt the need, to official extend it with her sincere kindness. As her green eyes not only met Bruce's but also Selina's and Dick's. It least did feel somewhat more open, least that chance as Kory's smile picked up speaking of such peace. Meant what she said, assuring he could trust her to guard these secrets. Even though she didn't seem the kind to like secrets, she had accepted the fact those she cared about needed them. Guarding her friends, she would protect to her death. That included everyone in the room… A hand laid at Dick's, momently probably back on his lap. Not in suggestion, than support, leaning over what was left between them and kissed him on the cheek. He knew she meant her words. She would guard him most of all. Giggling happily and softly in his ear… Turning back more towards the plates before them. Seeming to be some form of a salad. A starter. Kory knew there was certainly more to come, but well. As Kory blushed slightly, at Bruce mentioning she had helped. Not that Alfred needed a lot of help, but Kory was happy to offer. Not to mention soak up any little tips for the kitchen. Well, the play Kory had done to the starters… Making faces was purely her conception.
"Indeed… I can assure the food won't talk back…"
Kory happily responded and jested a little about the food talking back. Help lighten the mood, giving Dick a knowing look in regarding the hunts tamaraneans went on. Though it of course matched the plates potentially smiling back at everybody. If they had talked, Kory could only assure then it be more exciting. She playfully winked at Dick. A night like this could have almost been good for a hunt, but alas, those days were far far behind her. No hunts. Least not those kinds, but the fond memories weren't half bad. Smile softly, feeling more positive. The sense of joy was somewhat back in the room and Kory was gladly to grab on to it. There was still a slight caution, but that seemed natural after what had happened. Kory was hopeful things would only become more comfortable… Although stopped for a moment when Bruce mentioned he needed a word with her. Playfully looking as if she should be worried, but she was actually pleased he had. Smiled surprised by his extended words. Kory's mouth feel silent for a moment… Wow, Kory thought happily at what seemed to her as kind words from Bruce… Very kind… If she didn't already not breath the same air, it would have been silent lost. Her hand squeezed Dick's. Checking this was actually happening. Eyes dropped. Her hand dropped her fork and came gently at eyes. Her cheek. Just a few unexpected joyful tears. Not that she needed Bruce's acceptance she cared more him accepting Dick, but X'hal she couldn't deny it felt nice. More than nice.
"Sure, I'd really enjoy that, Bruce… Thank-you! You are a noble man… If not thee noble man. You are a knight after all! You already have my respect… As do you both… You are more wonderful than I had expected, Selina. I trust now with the honesty in toe, our new friendship will only strengthen… To peace. Friendship. Love. With so little of it in this world. May we cherish it."
Lifted her head more proudly and assured as she responded. With her natural kind, positive nature. After Bruce's own kinda words, which Kory could only assume opening up, giving such extension wasn't something he did was easily, so she was more than happy to have any conversations with him… Thanking him was easy, much with the beautiful tamaranean smile and lightness in her green encased eyes. Simply put he was noble. Very much in his ruthless dedication to being the Batman. Which Kory lightly played along with, recalling he was the Dark Knight after all. Even suited better now. Kory thought softly and without the slight raise of her playful eyebrows… But respect wasn't something he didn't lack from her, that she could honestly say. They just were rather different beings. Bruce was all in the shadows. Kory was all about being the light…. Naturally that could clash, but also compliment, as it seemed do so well with Dick. Who could also be knightly. Only this was a slightly different tale, given she was a slightly different princess. She'd do most of the sweeping off his feet… Before of course Kory extend her kindness to not just Bruce, but Selina as well. Who well, Kory had spoken to before she even really seen her face, but something even in the initial hello, Kory warmed to. Then Kory warmed to people in general. As Kory saw Selina raising her wineglass. Kory raised her glass of water, as she kindly added a little to the toast. Positiveness of course. With an radiant smile as she mentioned cherishing the love that had. Motioning her glass to Dick's glass. Least that usually was how Titans had toasted, given a couple broken glasses in the process. Before offering to cling her glass to Bruce and Selina. Then sipped her water… Now this was feeling a little more like a date!

Alfred took notice of Bruce and Selina’s hands as he continued the service and smiled. He was rather relieved that the secrets had come out. It made his dealing with them all much simpler, at least in private. It seemed to him that Master Bruce held Miss Selina’s hand longer than was appropriate, but he had never been one for convention. He barely took notice of the compliments paid him, though he seemed to be in a better mood than usual during the dinner service.
“You are most welcome, Miss Anders,” he replied to the young alien. He knew that Master Bruce had rust issues with the young lady, though it wasn’t because of her status as alien. One of his best friends was the last survivor of the planet Krypton and he’d nearly had an affair with an immortal Amazon. He believed that Master Bruce’s issues with Miss Anders stemmed from her joyful outlook on life. Even Superman wasn’t as optimistic as Miss Anders, and Master Bruce had always been suspicious of anyone that was too happy.
“It is good to have you back in the manor,” he offered privately to Master Richard. “You’ve been away for too long, and while he would never admit it aloud, Master Bruce does have concern over your well-being. And do try not to judge him too harshly; he believes he’s carrying the entire world on his shoulders.”
Alfred went on serving the meal through the several courses and into the desert. He saw that Bruce was beginning to get restless to move, and that he’d yet to release Miss Selina’s hand, though they both seemed perfectly adept at eating one-handed. Then again, Alfred generally believed that the Chinese had the right idea in formal dinners; if the food wasn’t ready to eat with a single utensil, then the dish hadn’t been prepared correctly.
He made his way to Miss Selina and spoke quietly to her, though he imagined that Master Bruce would find out what had been said one way or another. :”Miss Kyle, with the utmost respect and modestly, I believe that I must warn you against trifling with Master Bruce’s heart. Should I find you have treated him badly, there will be no place on this world where you can hide from me.”
