Scourge followed Joker out onto the thin metal ledge, balancing himself as best he could. Unlike Joker, he refused to release his weapon as he struggled to climb up beside the clown, who was reloading his gun. Scourge had heard the shots, six total, but doubted any did any damage to Hawkgirl.
Joker was rushing him, but he refused to loose focus. He aimed and fired, following the vigilantees movements as precicely as he could. That's when he noticed Joker had left him behind. He looked around wildly, cloak flapping vigorously in the wind, and spotted him take a running leap toward the hero. He stopped fireing, afraid he would hit Joker, and waited for them to defend onto the train, where he would begin fireing again.

When the Joker starts firing, Hawkgirl does a quick twist in the air, followed by a sudden drop, and almost immediately by a sudden rise. And that's just the beginning of the series of complicated aerobatic movements she has up her sleeve. Thanagarian evasive patterns were designed with blast type weaponry in mind - the guns that humans have are hopelessly primitive by comparison. And the maneuvers do little to slow her down as she nears the front of the train.
Normally she would have noticed when the Joker's latest sidekick stops firing and took that as a warning, but she's too preoccupied with figuring out exactly what she's going to do with this speeding train now that she's almost past it. That's when there's a sudden weight on one of her legs, pulling her down. Her angry eyes whip around and meet those of the man hanging onto her leg. What the...?
Her eyes narrow. "You think you've caught me?" she says, and a smirk suddenly comes to her face, "Wrong!" She simply gives one extra powerful thrust of her wings and sees what comes of that. You see, she's a lot stronger than she looks, especially her wings. She's carried Batman around in full armor before without any real trouble. Joker, by comparison, is a skinny guy - his weight means almost nothing to her. So by thrusting forward so hard with her wings, something will give, and she knows it won't be her. If it's her boot - well, Joker will get a souvenir and she really doesn't care. If it's his grip on her leg, she'll be free and clear with her costume intact. If it's neither, he'll switch from being a passenger on a train to being a passenger on her - and she knows exactly what to do with that problem, should it occur.

The gust of wind rattled against Joker's frail body. Clinging to Hawk's leg, her boot began to slide away, sinking towards the speeding train. Releasing the item of clothing and grabbing out for another hold, Joker forced his hands into the top edge of Hawkgirl's chest plate, ramming in his fingers. Regaining his balance, two spat covered shoes came crashing into the winged wonder's rib cage, wavering her composure.
After the kick, Joker's legs dangled beneath him once more. Using the momentum from his previous manoeuvre, he swung himself through Hawk's legs, letting fly his fingers and then clutching her left wing. Hurtling himself round, Joker came crashing on her back, straddling her and ramming in his heels as if he were a cowboy trying to tame a wild mustang.
Gloved hands became fists as he began pounding at the hero's head. Each blow gained force and power, crashing harder and harder against Hawkgirl's skull. He smiled with merciless gleee as he beat her. The smile then faded into rage as he clutched her head with his left hand and repeated fired blows with his right. He yelled out in infuriated rage, his voice echoing in her ears. The rhythm of the speech matched the constant and endless punching.
"WHY. WON'T. YOU. FALL. DOWN?"

Hawkgirl grimaces as the evil clown grapples with her. But while he's attempting to injure her - and not very effectively, considering just how much her body can take and just how weakly a human can punch - she takes advantage of the fact that he's no longer on the train by abruptly shifting from flying horizontally with it to flying straight up. Whatever damage the train may cause by letting it go pales in comparison to the damage it would cause to let the clown go. So since he's so eager to come along for the ride with her, she'll give him a ride all right.
But though the blows prove largely ineffective, some of them still hurt. The kick to her ribcage in particular is most unpleasant, but her bones are far stronger than a human's - he'd break his own before he broke hers using only his own body to fight her with. The blows to her head, on the other hand, are ineffective for a different reason. The rhythmic punching against her helmet make it all too easy for her to simply grab one of his wrists mid-punch, though she does nothing more than hold it tightly in her iron grip. For a few moments, it's so that he can't suddenly bail out of this flight at the last second, though given how fast she can shoot into the air it's rapidly just to make sure he doesn't fall off. Because he would probably die if he fell from this height, and Batman would not be pleased with her at all if she killed him and had other options.
And while she's doing that, her answer to his question is a remarkably calm. "Because my helmet is made of Nth metal. Superman may not be able to break it - we've never actually tested that, but I think you get the picture," she informs him. The only person he was hurting trying to punch her in the head was himself. "And even if I weren't wearing it, I'm a Thanagarian. Your strength means nothing to me!" she adds, suddenly flipping around in the air and giving his wrist a very strong pull. Between the momentum and the strength of her arm, she rips him from off of her back, leaving him dangling by his arm clutched tightly in her hand. Fortunately, her grip is more than secure and she has no desire to actually drop him. Well, not right now anyway.

"Well, fair enough..." The Joker remarked as himself and Hawkgirl continued to fly through the air. He began to laugh in amusement as he first looked down and then pointed over the heroine's shoulder. "But what about those guys?"
As The Joker spoke, a purple and green helicopter had come barrelling into view. Armed with with the latest technologies including missiles and a very nasty looking chain gun mounted on the front, the chopper was a force to reckoned with. Joker smiled as the two goons who straddled the sides of the beast began firing at Hawkgirl. While she was distracted, Joker began rummaging around in his pockets. He pulled out a small homemade device and pushed a green glowing button on it.
After the button was pushed, the sky began to light up orange as a large explosion destroyed the rail bridge spanning the river. The twisted metal and smouldering flames began to collapse into the water as the train Scourge was still on with 15 hostages and goons came hurtling towards it. The Joker used his bony fingers to tap into Hawkgirl's palm. He drew her attention and pointed to the bridge.
"That looks mighty dangerous for say, I dunno, a train full of hostages, wouldn't you say? And if I remember there were a good few folks on my carriage before I stepped out to tango with you my dear. So, you have to ask yourself, what do I do? Do I apprehend the criminal and let fifteen innocent people die or do I save the people and let me go? Of course you can't do both. So you have to ask yourself the question."
The Joker looked up at Hawkgirl.
"Do I feel lucky?"
He began to smile.
"Well, do ya, punk?"

Hawkgirl spots the helicopter the second it comes into view, not needing the warning. She does have really good eyesight and hearing, after all, and helicopters aren't quite and those ones in particular are some pretty hideous colors. But though she scowls at the weaponry launched in her direction, she doesn't have much difficulty dodging the guns and missiles. The missiles may be powerful, but they're very slow, at least compared to her, and the Joker simply doesn't weigh her down enough to be that much of a burden to her reflexes. In fact, she demonstrates her finesse and displeasure with the helicopter by dodging in such a way as to make the ammo barely miss the crazed criminal she's carrying.
Of course, she's quick to abandon that game when she sees the bridge exploding. Not good! She scowls at the clown man that she has in her grasp. "Enough games!" she declares as she suddenly swings the arm holding him, throwing him up a bit higher into the air. Then she catches him again, this time catching him by the shoulders so that she's facing him. Not giving him a second to recover from that, she uses that position to headbutt him. Like she just told him, she has a hard head covered in an even harder helmet. And she happens to know just how hard she'd have to hit him in order to crack his skull. She hits him just a bit less than that - easily enough to knock him unconscious.
That done, she goes into a dive after the speeding train, dropping the clown on the roof of it once they're low enough that it won't kill him. If the train's going to crash, he's going with it - it's only fair. But she herself speeds ahead toward the engine, knowing that she's unlikely to get any resistance from the Joker's men this time. They're crazy to work for a man like that, but she doubts that they're crazy enough to stop her from saving their lives.

Scourge had watched the aerial battle from the top of the speeding train, feeling rather helpless. It was a rather one sided fight, he noticed. And it soon became even more obvious when the damned harpy knocked out Joker and let him drop back to the train. Scourge rushed to his side and frowned. There wasn't much he could do, not on top of a speeding train. Joker was both larger and heavyer, but Scourge held onto him anyway in an attempt to keep him from falling off the train, even though Scourge would end up going over with the clown should he actually fall. This was about all he could do, stopping Hawkgirl would be a stupid mistake, and releasing Joker, well he supposed it didn't really matter. Scourge wouldn't be strong enough to stop him from falling. Still, his fingers curled into Joker's shoulder as he braced himself for a sudden stop.

As expected, Hawkgirl doesn't have to dodge any gunfire this time as she makes her way to the front of the train. In fact, even before she gets there some quick-thinking person throws on the train's brakes. However, she knows even without having to check just how fast it's stopping to know that it won't be fast enough to stop the train before it plunges in the river. Trust humans to invent something so heavy and then design it to go really fast without figuring out how to make it stop quickly.
Unable to think of a better plan she simply flies to the front of the locomotive and pushes against it, wings flapping hard and as quickly as she can. She may not be the strongest hero on Earth, but she has a lot of it - especially in the wings. It's not enough to stop the train in a single flap, or even the tenth, but adding as much force as she's able to bring to bear to the front of the train does make an impact on the train's speed. But knowing that it could easily be a close thing, she really throws herself into it - she's quickly to the point of breathing hard but as her stamina is truly remarkable that's not that big of a deal.
Not so much as glancing over her shoulder until she's finished, she continues to flap until the train comes to a full and complete stop. Then she glances behind herself, measuring the distance to the gap in the tracks with her eyes - ten yards or so. Yeah, she knew it would be a close thing. But she only takes a moment to breathe before she's up in the air again, ignoring the assorted cries of relief coming from the train's occupants and instead bent on retrieving the Joker. She won't celebrate until the man responsible for this is locked up somewhere.

It had taken some struggling, but Scourge had managed to drag Joker a little farther from the edge...about three feet. But he wasn't Hawkgirl, he didn't have enhanced strength. Three feet would be fine for now. In the corner of his eye, he noticed Hawkgirl, and realized she may be slightky weaker after stopping the train. Then he looked back at the Joker and wondered just how much it might hurt to do what he planned to do. He had three smoke bombs at his disposal, and two flashbangs since he used one earlier. It would he stupid to use a flashbang here, so he snatched up a smoke bomb.
He would have to be quick. The slope of the train woukd allow him to slide Joker and himself off. He coukd deal with the pain, he hoped. Frowning, he threw down the smoke bomb and watched as a thick gray cloud rose up around him and Joker. Still frowning with his thoughts, Scourge pushed Joker back towards the edge, down the slight slope of the train, and snatched onto his hand as gravity began to take hold. They fell as the smoke thickened, and Scourge just managed to catch a window if the train, his other hand tightening around Joker's wrist. Pain flared up his arm as he struggled to hold the other man, his shoulder felt as if it were on fire. Judging the distance to the ground, their decent lightened by his quick hold on the window, he dropped the rest of the way, landing on his feet, but quickly falling onto his butt. His teeth dug into his bottom lip as he began to realize just how much his shoulder hurt, but he refused to make a sound. The smoke was dispersing, he had to dissapear. Using his other, arm, which was also strained, but not as badly, he struggled to roll him and himself under the train. It was a tight fit, but that was alright. There, now, he needed something to wake Joker up. Scourge reached down into a small satchel and dug around until he found...he pulled it out. Lavender! That would be fine. Scourge raised the lavender to Joker's nose and gently waved it beneath his nostrils. "Come on...wake up." He whispered.

Actually, Hawkgirl's stamina is such that she's still ready for more. However, she can't see through smoke screens, and when she gets back above the train that's all she sees. Well, whatever that means, it can't be good. She flies right into it - her hearing should be good enough to tell her what's going on in it just as well as her eyes. But when she gets there she can't hear anything on the roof of the train.
Scowling in frustration at this, she gives her wings a couple of hard flaps to dissipate the cloud, but then her eyes confirm what her ears told her - the Joker isn't where she left him. She'd like to assume that he fell off while she was stopping the train, but the smoke screen tells her he had help. When she headbutts someone, she really headbutts them - he'd still be unconscious. And if he did wake up this quickly he'd have a headache like one would have after getting hit by a truck; he's not going anywhere without help. But who would be crazy enough to help him now? The girlfriend maybe, though Hawkgirl hasn't seen her. Of course she has no idea who Scourge is or that he's abnormally loyal for a henchman.
"Alright, where are you?" she asks out loud. She doesn't bother scanning around with her eyes - if she could see them then she would have spotted them already. Instead she starts to listen very carefully. After all, her ears are sensitive enough to pick out heartbeats from a short distance, and they couldn't have gotten out of that range yet. However, her ears are also sensitive enough to pick out the creaking of the train as the metal settles after the stress of stopping so quickly, the sound of the people on board both nearest cars exclaiming to each other about what just happened, and a whole host of other things. She thinks that she can hear someone urging someone to wake up, but she has a hard time pinpointing where it's coming from other than the fact that it's nearby. Pity that she doesn't have an enhanced sense of smell - she'd be on them in a second. But as it is, there's just to many other noises going on right now.
Gritting her teeth in frustration, she says, "You're not getting away that easily!" And then she takes off again. If her ears aren't going to be any help, then she needs to look, and she'll be able to see everything better with a little height and distance - this close up the train itself is blocking too much of her view. All she needs is the slightest glimpse of anything indicating where the Joker is now and she'll have him. She's so close she can taste it, and she's not going to give up now.

Scourge frowned when Joker didn't imediatly wake up. Hawkgirl must have hammered him hard. Then again, if Joker was awake, it wasn't likely he would sit still and be quiet. The clown wouldn't want to go down without a joke, Scourge was sure. Hawkgirl had obviously not detected them yet. He hoped it woukd stay that way. His shoulder still burned, but slowly, inch by inch, he began to drag Joker farther back, taking care to stay beneath the train and not make any noise. He eventually arrived at a split between carts and swung up, sticking close as to not be seen, sliding open the door. He had left Joker in the ground. A few henchmen looked up in surprise, and Scourge scowled at them all. "Help me with the Joker, or I slice you all up into peices." Scourge growled. They looked hesitant, but started forward, reaching out the door to snatch up Joker.
"Now follow me. Don't make any noise, and try not to be seen. Because I won't help you." Scourge then proceeded to the next cart, the three thugs following, the largest with Joker slung over his shoulder. Carefully, silently, they made their way to the back of the train. At the last cart, Scourge knew Hawkgirl woukd be on the lookout. An idea came to mind. He turned to the smallest thug and in the slightest of voices, told him his plan while the thug's face went white. But it only took one near silent threat to get him to agree. Scourge and the two other henchmen along with Joker, ducked down behind some crates while the small thug lept from the back of the train and sprinted off in the opposite direction, trying to be descreit. "Scourge! Wait up! You cant leave me here with Hawkgirl!" He half whispered half yelled. He really didn't want to attract Hawkgirl's attention. Hopefully, the thug will lead Hawkgirl away as she silently followed to try and find the Joker, who would no doubt be with Scourge. If the plan failed, he still had two smoke bombs and a spare thug to throw at her.

Hawkgirl quickly starts to fly over, under, and around the train and bridge in a quick search-pattern. But she's slowed by the fact that there's a lot of train to search, her target is moving, and could have gone in either direction. She gets more and more frustrated as the seconds tick by and she fails to find him. Her search pattern broadens.
But then, she suddenly spots a lone thug taking off from the back car of the train. She's on him in a moment, but she's not Batman. He's the type that would silently follow someone, and that's just not her style. And more importantly, the train is on a bridge with a gaping hole in front of it and a long stretch of nothing but empty track behind it. If this guy was following someone, she'd probably be able to see him. So instead she abruptly lands directly in front of the running man. "Where is he?!" she demands, likely causing him to slow to a stop. Though if the fact that she's directly in his way doesn't stop him, she'll happily knock him to the ground if that's what it takes to prove she means business. She has absolutely no patience left at this point and isn't shy about letting the whole world know.

Ringing. Constant ringing. Thats all he heard. He could see nothing. Nothing except black. Black nothingness. And then shadows. Moving shadows. He could see color. Whatever had happened, he was waking up.
The Joker regained consciousness on the shoulders of Humphrey, one of his larger goons. He saw a party of followers he was in fleeing the train, lead by Scourge. He was unbelievably confused.
"What happened? Did we make it?"
"No boss" Was the reply. "Hawkgirl stopped us before we hit the barricades"
"Are the hostages still inside?" The Joker questioned.
"Yep. Ever single one of 'em. No escapees"
"Then let's keep it that way..." The Joker mused as rummaged around in his tailcoats. Pulling out a handmade remote detonator, the clown prince smiled.
"Joker 1. Hawkgirl, 0."
He flicked the blue switch on the detonator. Suddenly all the dufflebags that were in the train started to simultaneously beep. All 50 of them. Until one suddenly stopped and the train exploded into shrapnel.
"End of the line..."
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Scourge growled from the back of the train as he watched Hawkgirl stop the thug he had sent out. The man stumbled back in surprise and mutely pointed ahead. Scourge cursed, he knew Hawkgirl wouldn't fall for it. "Lets go." He ordered, leaping from the back of the train and sprinting forward, right towards Hawkgirl. It was the only way to go. Then he heard voices. It was Joker and the large, heavy set man. He glanced over his shoulder and listened in. It wasn't long before he figured out what was going on. A heat blast propelled him to the concrete, onto his face. "Shit!" Scourge cursed, wrapping his cloak protectively around his body. He couldn't see Joker, but figured he and the other thugs must be on the ground. The bridge shook and began to crumble, the shattered peices of the train slowly falling away into the water below. "We need to get off this bridge." Scourge growled at Joker, furious he hadn't waited until they were safely away. Idiot!

As Scourge suspected, Hawkgirl doesn't buy the thug's pointing for a second. If there was anyone there, she would have seen them. And she's just about to explain this in extremely clipped words to the thug when she spots the men jumping out of the back of the train. When she spots the Joker being carried by one of the larger ones, she smirks. Well, doesn't that just make this easy? Her mace is off her belt and in her hand in an instant - she can make short work of these clowns.
But she as she's about to charge the sudden beeping on the train causes her to hesitate in surprise. Another detonator? "No!" she exclaims when the train explodes into a fireball. There are very few things that would convince Hawkgirl to give up on a criminal in her sights and this is one of them. There will be survivors, she realizes instantly, as she practically vanishes in a sudden burst of air, which is probably strong enough to knock over anyone who wasn't knocked over by the blast, so quick is she to take off and find them.
She's had the sad experience of seeing this type of thing a number of times before - there's always people who need instant help if they are to live. And as much as it pains her, that's the more important thing here. Besides, she's actually really good at tracking, even in an urban environment - she'll see if she can't track them down after she's taken care of the more urgent matter at hand.
