The compliment draws a quick smile to Nina's face. She's aware that she's not unattractive, but she isn't vain about that. However, a compliment coming from Edward seems more sincere to her than from pretty much anyone else. Quite likely that's partly because of the way she feels about him, but another part of it is that he has to actually stop thinking about his own merits for a moment in order to do so. And she knows how hard that is for him.
And then she has that delightful problem of trying to listen to his words while his hands seem to be trying to distract her from them. Her lips press into finger and thumb as if kissing them as they pass by, though the attentiveness in her eyes doesn't waver and shows that her ears are winning the majority of the pull on her attention.
She actually looks somewhat pleased as he mentions the F.B.I. leaving Gotham thanks to her lingering feelings against them, even though she's fully aware that Edward's method for doing that can't be the most pleasant - the hint that it has something to do with the globalization of the U.S. doesn't help her much since she's never really paid close attention to how that sort of thing really works. She's a medical scientist, not a politician. Hearing that Batman can't solve a riddle is a more ambivalent subject. A part of her wants Edward to have the joy of success, and a part of her wants Batman to save the day. But there's that familiar feeling of not being completely sure which side she's cheering for again. Good thing she's elected to be a spectator and doesn't really have to.
No, none of that's enough to spoil what's rapidly becoming her dominant emotion: she's simply, in this moment at least, happy that he is happy. Correction: happy that he's happy and apparently not too busy at the moment to pay some attention to her. "Hmm," is her only comment to his words, a happy sigh that indicates general agreement with them. But then he leans toward her and they're kissing again. One of her hands curls around the back of his neck to support it against her lips, while the other pushes against the couch to partly support her weight and help her deepen the kiss.
What little of her mind isn't absorbed by the activity somewhat randomly notes that being on top of him is not the normal way of things. Partly because, thanks to their solid difference in height, he's naturally got the advantage whenever they're standing. But also because when they're expressing their feelings for each other, unlike pretty much anything else they could do together, she doesn't have to worry about Edward trying to steer things in a direction she doesn't want to go so she feels free to let him take as much control over the situation as he wants. Because, well, he likes to do that and she doesn't care if he does. And that usually means they end up the other way around.
Though what she says when their lips finally part is a hint of what she makes of this situation: "I'm going to have to correct you on one point," she says as a playful smirk crosses her face, "This does not count as 'on top of'." She glances behind her for a moment since what she's about to do is actually kind of tricky since her injured leg is on the near side with her hips twisted beneath her. But, very carefully, she manages to use her good leg to support herself as she twists her hips and lifts the other one over to the other side of Edward's legs so that it can rest against the armrest there where it can be safely out of the way. Then she can pull her good leg onto the couch.
"This is 'on top of'," she remarks as her full weight ends up squarely on him. Given that she's not a toothpick of a woman (though she isn't exactly fat either), the fact that she's doing nothing to help support her weight makes this much more playful squishing than it is an awareness of how very close they are now - though there's an element of that too. The expression on her face as she holds it a few inches above his is a teasing 'well, whatcha gonna do now?'. Not that he isn't strong enough to push her off if he really wants to, but she rather suspects that he doesn't.

He found himself leaning into her kiss as his hand cupped her cheek. It felt so strange that they hadn't been this close in weeks, possibly months. He had become so busy. It was so easy for his work to take control ove his life. He had never been talented at balancing different things in his life. He had always been a bit obsessive, so once something caught his attention, he focused on it until it was perfection. Did he regret not paying attention to the other aspects of his life? No, but he would admit he missed this. The fact that Nina accepted his absence then welcomed him back was one of the many reasons he liked her, but then again she was just as addicted to her work as him.
He enjoyed the look in her eyes when she pulled away. It was a look of want and teasing he had seen her use on a few occasions, and as always, he felt himself feeling a bit hot under the collar. He couldn't even help his smirk that looked at her when she mentioned correcting him. The idea of being corrected caused a tinge of irritation, but he realized immediately that she was teasing him. He watched as she moved her leg to straddle his waist. Why was it feeling hot in this room?
She was seducing him and doing quite a job at it as well. His hand settled on his waist, and while this was the first time she had been on top of him, he was finding this extremely sexy. His fingers dipped into the edge of her pants so he could feel her bare skin against his fingertips. "It looks like I was wrong," he said with a smirk, "It happens so rarely I am not use to it, but thank you for correcting me." His fingers drew slow circles along her skin. His pants were starting to feel a bit uncomfortably tight, and he wanted to shift his body. He wanted to feel that wonderful friction of her form against him. Her warmth seemed to be spreading through him, and amazingly enough, he was not focusing on his riddle or plan. His entire focus was on the woman on top of him.
He leaned his head forward so his lips were even closer to her lips. He wanted to close the distance, but if she was going to tease him, he could play that game too. "You seem to have me in a bit of a puzzle though, dear," he stated with a smirk, "my clothes seem a bit constraining, but I have no way to solve it."

Nina is not normally a very demanding woman. Which is a good thing, considering that Edward doesn't generally listen to demands anyway. But, unable to feed her work addiction or her Edward addiction until just this moment, even being in a penthouse suite in China isn't enough to cure her boredom. Actually, this place does almost nothing for that given that she doesn't really care about how luxurious it is. So is the rather intensive level of teasing she's currently engaging in her way of getting back at him for the fact that he's been distracted while she hasn't had that luxury? I suppose that's conceivable...
Her grin when he graciously admits that he was wrong is triumphant - or is the grin itself at the feeling of his fingertips against her skin and the triumph because she knows perfectly well what effect she's having on him? Her grin shifts into more of a smirk when he comments on the predicament that she's put him in, and she reveals that it was intentional by just how falsely innocent her voice is when she says, "Oh? I suppose I am in the way of all of all the buttons, zippers, and other fasteners involved." And not just his, but hers as well.
She leans forward as if to complete the kiss he's trying to tease her with but manages to force herself to stop only a hair away so that she can murmur, "Maybe if you ask me very nicely, I'll consider helping you solve that problem." Or maybe there's no 'maybe' or 'consider' about it given that she's only barely holding back now. She's already shifting her good leg and one of her hands into place so that they're ready to remove her weight and give them a little room. Meanwhile, her other hand has drifted up to his collar and is idly feeling the corner of it, oh so close to his tie.

Oh the sneaky woman, he thought as she innocently mentioned the dilemma. There was something about her smirk added with that look in her eyes that truly made him want to push her under him and just have his way. He kept his control though. He waited patiently as she came to kiss him. His lips even parted slightly as he prepared for the kiss, but the kiss never came. He only felt her hot breath against them as she stated her demand. His half-lidded eyes opened to better lock with her sultry look. Clever, but he was having a hard time not bending backwards for the woman. Her hand was playing with his collar, and it was making it difficult to breath.
He swallowed uncomfortably as her hand continued to linger closer and closer to his tie. Why couldn't she just strip him now? This was torturous. It could be comparable to cruel and unusual punishment. His hands kept tracing along her skin. He wanted to push the flimsy fabric all out of the way. He wanted to take control....but there was something new and exciting about letting her have her way. It was like a complete reminder to how much Nina wanted him, and being the attention whore he is, he loved this feeling.
He licked his lips in thought as he considered her demand before refocusing on her. "Dear, I have never been very talented at my 'please and thank yous,'" he commented in a softer voice. He could just lift up and meet her kiss. He could easily shift his weight to put himself on top of her. "But it would be cruel of you to let a man suffer in this condition," he continued. His hands moving up her side, but under her shirt. If she wasn't going to take off his close, he could at least get rid of hers.

Edward's answer causes a look of amusement to cross Nina's face as she notes, "Odd; your lips are the only part of you that aren't asking me nicely." Based on the way she measures things, his hands are being especially convincing, not to mention those eyes consumed by want. Whether his words will comply with her demand or not, she can't help but respond to those eyes.
She leans forward to complete the kiss, her lips hungry and forceful as if angry with his for refusing such a simple request. At the same time her weight shifts both to deepen the kiss and grant access to the aforementioned fasteners that are cruelly keeping his skin from touching hers. Her free hand is suddenly moving quickly, making short work of his tie and then working its way down the front of his shirt as if trying to make up for the time lost by her teasing.
It's a bit of a strange feeling, taking control for once. But just because she's never done so with Edward before doesn't mean that she doesn't know how. Given their past experiences, Edward must know that she's had plenty experience with men. Not very many of them - including Edward, she can still count the number of them on one hand - but given the amount of natural loyalty she has it should surprise nobody that those weren't one night stands by any means. It should surprise nobody that taking charge was a regular thing for her with all of them since men with a strong enough personality to match hers are rare. Then again, perhaps that's one of the reasons why none of those relationships lasted.
Once her hand has had an adequate head start, her lips leave his so that she can plant a slow, butterfly-soft kiss on his chest as her hand continues to uncover more of him to work with. Nina knows quite a bit about how the mind and body processes the sense of touch, both from what she's studied and from experience, and she need only apply it properly to be sure of pleasing the man that she loves. Not that men are hard to please to begin with, but she's definitely not leaving that up to chance.

He smirks. He can't find it that surprising that his body is giving away his desire. He does have a woman on top of his body, teasing him in a cruel manner, but he doesn't have much time to give her words any additional thoughts before her lips forcefully connect with his own. He's mildly surprised by the feel of the kiss. There is so much aggression and want in it. His surprise was automatically put aside by finally having her feel his desire. His hands pull her body close to him as he shifts his body to have their hips meet.
The feel of her hands attacking his clothing causes him his own fingers to drag along her back, and when he hands actually touch his skin he feels sense electricity. Her lips are still against his and he happily allows her to take control of the kiss. For some reason not having control in this is actually turning him on. Besides for a light nip of her lip and his hands on her back, he is actually giving the full reigns to her. But when she leaves his lips, he still gets the strong obsessive need to pull her back. He stops himself allowing her to kiss his chest. It was a complete contradiction to the forceful kiss he just had, and it caused his heart to pick up a bit. It was a perfect description of what Nina was at times. A contradiction. A perfect contradiction that made her difficult to predict. His breathing had become heavier and he became acutely aware of wear her hands were heading with his clothing.
His hands moved up her body, but this time he pushed her shirt up as well. He wanted to feel this skin against his own. He wanted that friction. His finger barely grazing along the undergarment as he lifts the shirt further. He truly was beginning to believe that having a woman around wasn't the worst thing to happen to a man.
"I'm glad you're here," he said without his consent. This is what happens when you lose blood flow to the brain, you lose your ability for smoothness.

It's the breaks from normality that keep things interesting, isn't it? If something happens to you repeatedly, no matter how amazing it was the first time you eventually start to get used to it and it becomes less so. That's when something novel suddenly becomes the better choice - like the role reversal of who's in charge, or an unexpectedly light kiss after a deeply passionate one. Until, of course, the unexpected becomes expected and then it's the 'normal' that suddenly becomes desirable again because of the familiarity. And Nina knows all of this and tends to apply it liberally.
Nina's own breathing becomes heavy as she feels him lifting her shirt, his hands on her body. And the reply to his statement is just as obvious, but just as sincere, "Me too." No, she has no regrets about coming to China with him. Nor any of the decisions she's made in the past that resulted in her being here with him right now. It's where she belongs.
----------
The problem with a couch is that if you're laying on it there's really only room on it for one person if you don't want to be piled on top of each other. And while such a circumstance is favorable in some situations, it isn't in others - eventually it becomes uncomfortable. This is why beds are superior to couches, and why Nina yields the entirety of the couch back to Edward sooner rather than later. She leaves him with one last kiss and murmurs something about a shower before she collects her clothes and crutches and heads to the bathroom to attend to that.
Bathing is tricky business when you can't use one of your legs to support yourself at all, but Nina's been dealing with that problem for long enough now that she's got the method down. Mostly it means simply putting everything where you can reach it so that you don't have to move around much, and being able to trust that you'll be able to keep your balance on a semi-slippery surface for that long.
There's something about the scent of soap and hot water that tends to make it easy to for the mind to wander and she finds herself mulling over recent events in reverse order. Hmm, Edward... After a long gap in paying attention to eachother... Well, it's good to have that end. Yes she can be okay with him being too busy to pay attention to her for awhile, but no she doesn't like it. She loves him, after all, and more than just a little bit. And whoever said that absence makes the heart grow fonder was clearly insane. And given the often turbulent nature of their relationship, it's good to know that they're still good together.
And by that she's doesn't mean physically. Well not just physically, anyway. He'd talked a little about his plans here and it hadn't upset her. Should it have? Did it not bother her because she doesn't feel involved in it or because it's Edward? Whichever the reason is, does the answer to that make her a bad person? She grimaces at that thought, but no she doesn't feel like she's done anything wrong. Then again, she recently committed arson and felt good about it - is she losing her sense of judgment? She does know that her experience with the F.B.I. has made her see things differently. More cynically.
Then again, perhaps she'd feel better about herself if she was able to work - that always brought a sense of personal fulfillment and self-worth that's currently missing from her life. How can she be worrying about whether or not she considers herself a good person when a part of her still aches at the thought of the people who are hurting out there who could be helped if only she could get back in a lab again? That's what made her so angry about the F.B.I. Her leg being hurt is simply an inconvenience and nothing she's really upset about. The fact that it could have killed her is, but not nearly as much as the fact that they made it so that she can't work. Well, not easily anyway.
At least Edward had taken how she chose to express that anger reasonably well. Okay, so he'd laughed at her, and that hurt her feelings a little bit. She thought it was a good plan - still does, in fact - but she doesn't like the pattern of him always seeming to assume that she screwed something up. But on the whole he could have reacted a whole lot worse than that. And she can be happy to have that much. Eventually, they'll find out which of them is correct, and perhaps she'll have the last laugh. That thought makes her smirk as she turns off the water and carefully moves out of the shower.
After she's toweled herself off, pulled her clothes back on, and dried her hair, she leaves the bathroom only about 20 minutes after entering it and looks around for Edward.
(OOC: lol, Nina had a lot more to think about than I realized.)

Edward feels a bit giddy when she kisses him and leaves for the shower. His eyes seem to follow her as she disappears into the hallway. Once she is out of sight, he brings his underneath his hands underneath his head and stares up at the ceiling. The smirk on his face is plastered there, as his mind rolls through what had just occurred. Why didn't they do that more? His mind pondered over the riddle for a moment before he realized immediately that it was because of work. They both got so caught up in their own lives. Did he regret the amount of attention he paid on work? No, not at all, but he really should attempt to have better time management.
He finally pushing himself up into the sitting position. Edward had always been a proud and confident person, but he always preferred wearing clothes. He spotted his pants that had been shaken off at some point. He bent down and quickly pulled on his slacks. He buttoned them then took a seat back on the couch. His eyes then searched the floor for his white button down...ah there it is. He ripped it off the ground and put it on. He would need to take a shower too before he left the apartment, so it was pointless to put on all of the pieces to his outfit. Instead he only a buttoned a few of the buttons and let the shirt hang lose over his slacks. When he was clothed and sitting there with nothing to do, he realized he was bored. His plan was already set into motion, he just had to wait for Wu to set up his side. His foot tapped against the ground slightly impatiently, as his smirk finally turned into a pout. He was bored. Why was Nina taking so long?
He leaned back into the couch with a sigh. His head lifted upward to the sky. He mind drifted to Nina. He would admit that he was having confusing thoughts about her at the moment. Before what had just occurred, he had been questioning why she was with him. She said she loved him. An idea he still hadn't come fully to grips with. She hardly knew him and disliked most everything he did. It was strange to consider that love. Did he love her? He had told her that a long time ago, but the words had yet to leave his lips again. He always found away to turn the conversation else where. But admittedly, he did treat her different. How could he not? She was intelligent and had a strong personality that was very different then most women. Did respecting her mean he loved her? The majority of the time she just frustrated him. She made him mentally exhausted to a point he would rather be talking to a brick wall then her. Being a challenge was one thing, being as stubborn as a mule was a completely different thing. He also was beginning to see the predictability in almost everything she did. He hated routines. They bored him to tears.
What happened minutes ago wasn't predictable, he noted, but in general, it was the same thing. She argued against him out of some righteous ideal she held either for herself or other's. She had to prove him wrong. She had to be right. He knew she didn't do it on purpose. He could tell she met no ill will in her statements, but it was still the same and the same was exhausting. He just wasn't sure...could he live without Nina? He had attempted to save her many times from himself. He felt a terrible guilt when the FBI incident had occurred....but...
His finger slipped through his hair as if he was attempting to rub his brain into restart. He was reminded of Jessica Duchamp. He blinked almost amazed at himself for actually remembering her name. He smirked before moving his hand to pinch the bridge of his nose as he shook his head. She had been a pretty art student he had meet during a museum heist. What was with him and picking up women at museums? She had rejected him over and over and over again. He remembered how much time he went into figuring out how to make her fall in love. He had even gone to her hometown and befriended her father. He had met with all of her ex-boyfriends in attempt to understand why she loved them and not him. He had been certain he figured out the riddle. He just had to become like one of those people. He started to change himself, which is probably part of the reason he will no longer do that for any woman. Amazingly enough, it had worked. She had come to him confessing her love. He had been happy at first....but.....but he grew bored. There was nothing more to it. She irritated him. Of course, it ended up with her father being shot in the head.
He let out another tired sigh. He wondered if the same would come of Nina. Edward had never been a people person. He had always been a puzzle person. He let his hand fall to his side. He should not be analyzing this as much as he is. He decided he needed to force himself to think elsewhere. He pushed himself up off the couch, leaving his cane behind. He limped towards the kitchen counter and grabbed his laptop he had left earlier. He then moved back to the couch. He opened up the computer on his lap. He wondered what was happening in Gotham. Had the Joker actually started his own plan for chaos yet? Edward knew the money he had given the man didn't go to help Edward escape. Whatever he was using it on was big. Were any of the other rogue's captured? He had completely forgotten about Selina. She had held up her favor marvelously even in her wounded state. He hoped she wasn't now behind bars because of it. If she was, he would have to fix that soon. He wondered if Scarecrow had made another appearance yet. He appeared to be an interesting man. Hmmm. So many riddles. He glanced at the hallways. He wasn't certain how long she would be, so he started hacking into the FBI network.

Nina smiles softly as she finds Edward on the couch with his laptop when she comes back down the hallway. Admittedly, a part of the reason for that is because she can tell by his incomplete state of dress that he isn't planning on leaving again soon. Reflecting on that and the time of day, she continues toward him and sits on the arm of the couch next to him. "If you don't have other plans, I could make us something for dinner," she comments as she takes just a moment to set the crutches aside get off of her feet. Or foot, to be more accurate. Not knowing whether he's doing something he doesn't want her looking at or not, she politely keeps her eyes off the screen of his laptop and concentrates on him for the moment.
Without conscious thought, her hand reaches out and runs through his hair. Even with her passion satisfied for a moment, she's still happy to simply be with him. Even if she were to try to pin it down, she'd have a hard time saying just what it is about him that attracts her to him so much. Sure he's very handsome and very intelligent, but while those are definitely factors it goes beyond both of them. There's also certain elements of his strong personality: his charisma, his overwhelming self-confidence. Even his obsessiveness to a certain degree - it reminds her of herself in a way. Yes, he's frustrating and exhausting, a very real challenge to her emotional balance, but she just can't picture life without him right now. It seems too... empty.

He hears Nina walk over to him, but at the moment he was busy typing in the correct coding to get passed the firewall without setting off any alarms so he didn't look up. Instead he continued to type into the computer the numbers and words like he was communicating in a different language. He had done this so many times, that he basically knew their set up by heart. As always, they changed a few things here or there every week, but overall it was the same. Agent Tiff made it too easy. He had just finished up the code and broken the firewall when Nina's hand went into his hair. The full interworking of the FBI website came to view. His well known smirk reappeared on his face when he turned to Nina.
He barely caught her words to him because he had been distracted with the technological jargon, so it took him a second longer then it should to respond. His eyes widened for a moment before he nodded in understanding. "Dinner sounds nice. I am sure they loaded the fridge with a large amount of substance, but if you want to save yourself the work, we could order room service," he offered. It probably wasn't as good as a home cook meal, but there was no reason to make her slave in the kitchen with a healing limb if she didn't have to.
"Come here though," he said with a devious look in his eyes as he shifted on the couch. The one thing he loved to do was brag, especially when he did something no normal person could even comprehend. He waited until she was sitting down next to him then swerved his laptop on her lap so she could see. "I hacked into the FBI mainframe," he stated as he moved the mouse over a link, "I can get access to their prisoners and information." He clicked and a list of prisoners appeared. He easily sorted the list to show only those arrested in Gotham City and those listed as extremely dangerous. A much smaller list appeared. It had been some time since he looked at it. He was only checking now to make sure Selina hadn't landed herself in trouble, but he started laughing lightly when he saw who was in it. "The Ventriloquist, I can't find too surprising, but it appears Ozzy finally had a mishap. I had heard the Iceberg raid did not go in his favor." There was one more name on the list that he had never heard of or seen. Pamala Isley....hmmm. He would have to look into that on a later date. If the FBI felt the need to put her with other rogues she must be dangerous.
"I can also get into their emails, but admittedly, none are very entertaining. There were a few about our escape that made me laugh. They still have not connected that Joker's attack was part of my overall plan. They are furious though that my virus shut down their system for almost a week." He smirked, "They shouldn't be surprised with such a basic system they have set up." He moved his mouse on the screen into Agent Files. They were the personal files of every agent, and there was a particular agent that had a very entertaining list. He finally maneuvered to it clicking on a labeled Sins of Gotham. It was the code for the Rogue Gallery, and of course a list of all of the gotham rogues appeared plus the notorious Bat Family members. "To be quite honest, this is one of the reason I am in such a good mood," he said, giving her a quick glance to make sure she is not becoming offended by any of this. In the past, almost everything illegal he did caused her to cringe. He clicked on his name. The webpage changed the first picture taken to him when he was arrested seven years ago. He was younger, only 23 at the time. In the picture, he is obviously extremely angry. He had managed to get revenge on four of the five people who had ruined his life, but Batman had solved the last riddle. The picture is not the most attractive because he has an obvious black eye. It was the first time he had an actually beaten since his middle school years. He remembered he had been at his computer taunting his final victim when out of no where someone caught him in a choke hold and pulled him out of his chair. He had been somewhat surprised that some man with bat issues had found his location. The Batman then went on to threaten him to stop his 'silly' antics. When Edward had laughed at him, the man had responded with his fist. Edward merely repeated that it would be cheating to reveal the answer to a riddle, after that he blacked out. Batman had managed to stop his riddle with his own computer. When he woke up he was being dragged into the GCPD. He was thrown in front of a screen and the camera took this wonderful photo that now graced all of his criminal records.
There were a few other photos. His different costumes he had worn over the years. He had done spandex for a few years....he inwardly cringe and quickly scrolled through the biography, his psychological diagnosis, his health conditions, and his complete criminal record (which was quite long) until finally reaching the section on suspected current activities.
He read through it, and noted they still were just throwing out idiotic guesses. "They have no clue where I am and what I am planning," he said with a full grin. They would have no idea of what was about to occur to them. "Not that the Batman is not as aware, but I haven't seen much activity on his front," he said, the grin fading for a moment. He hated being ignored. "As a hacker, I come to notice when other people are attempting to hack into the same area. They leave a digital trail. Since I have nothing better to do, I have been trying to locate Batman's trail. If I can find it, I might be able to hack into his mainframe and take control of his com-link between him and the Bat family," he looked at her again with the devious look on his face, "Imagine what I could do with that information. I would always be one step ahead of him." Not that he would have to be after this plan succeeded. He just always enjoyed to know what the Batman was doing. Had he found his riddle that he implanted into the FBI system? Was he focusing on finding him or some other Gotham rogue? Was he too determine deterring the FBI? He wanted to know. He had to know. Was it unhealthy for Edward to have such an obsession with one man? Probably, but Batman was the only person to ever provide him a true challenge.

"Oh, I want to make something," Nina replies immediately when he suggests room service. Because, like he said, a home cooked meal is generally better, especially if she picks something she's made many times before. The only reason why cooking isn't a normal thing for her is because normally she doesn't have so much empty time. It would give her something to do, really, and she likes the idea of being able to give Edward something she made herself.
When he tells her to come over, she slides off the arm of the couch and sits right next to him, resting her head against his shoulder as he explains what he's up to. She's quiet as she listens, but doesn't seem at all bothered by it. After what the F.B.I. did to her, knowing that Edward is hacking their database isn't going to bother her even mildly. Who deserves it more? It's actually somewhat comforting in a way to know that Edward is able to have such a window into what they're doing. While she may have mixed feelings about the idea of someone trying to bring Edward to justice, one thing she's sure of is that what the F.B.I. is doing right now does not count as justice. She wants them to remain as far away as possible from both Edward and her. The thought of Agent Tiff getting anywhere near Edward... no, just no.
On the other hand, when he points out that the Ventriloquist as been caught, she gives a satisfied, "Hmph!" Yeah, she still doesn't like the guy. She's still glad that she stopped Edward from beating him, but she'd also like to avoid meeting him again. Actually, she wouldn't have been half so opposed to Edward hurting the guy at that time if he hadn't have been paralyzed by her power - he couldn't fight back and that was her fault. She goes back to simply listening as he moves on from there, her face showing simple interest.
At least until he pulls up that first old photo of him. Her brows furrow as she studies it a moment, her mood seeming to grow distant. It brings to mind memories of what he's said about his motivation for doing what he does... But that mood lifts as her eyes scan over the other photos, and she can't help the amused smirk that crosses her face at the spandex. Yeah, like she's ever going to listen to his opinion on fashion, ever. The written information looks interesting too, but he quickly scrolls past most of it and she's guessing that he wouldn't necessarily like her reading it anyway; doubtless much of it is personal, and not only that but written and interpreted by other people.
She can't help but smile at his smile as he explains that they don't know what he's up to, but then her expression becomes more passive again as he talks about Batman. Her forehead wrinkles a little in thought as she curiously asks, "But if you were always a step ahead of Batman, wouldn't he no longer be a challenge?" It's always interesting to her when Edward explains what he's up to - his thought process on things. Even given what she knows about him, there's always things that crop up that are unexpected or don't immediately make sense t her.

He missed the expression on her faces at his photos, though it was probably for the best because he would have gone into a rant about why he choose spandex in the early days. He might now look back at it with disgust, but it made sense at the time he choose the outfit. Her question is interesting though, and it causes his lips to tip up in that taunting smirk.
He shifted his body to better face her, but not forcing her off his shoulder. "That's the point dear," he said tapping her nose like a parent taps a child. His obsession with Batman was a difficult one to explain. He loved the challenge, but the reason he loved the challenge was because he wanted to solve it. He loved the time and thought it took to solve such a mystery, but eventually he wanted did want the end product. He wanted to walk away knowing he was smart enough to figure it out. "Batman has always been a riddle to me, and I can't have a riddle stay unsolved forever," he explained further. He paused for a moment, his eyes leaving hers and moving back to the wall at the other side of the room. "I was in the hospital when I first read about some man wearing a bat suit and taking on Falcone," he explained thinking back on his memory, "At the time, I placed it as useless garbage. The man had some mental issues to look into. I also was focused on other things...." he paused for another moment, "When I was on my fifth riddle, I had come to the conclusion that I had finally won. I had finally made the world a better place. The next thing I know, this man dressed up as a bat has me pushed up against the wall. While I had lost my chance to give Robert Huntington what he truly deserved, there was something else....respect." His lips pursed out as he considered it more. It was strange because he never talked about these things. He tended to jump around the topic every time the Arkham staff attempted to get deeper. "Now realize dear," he said facing her, "I was young so my temper got the best of me sometimes, but at some point while I was in Arkham I realized that there was actually one other person in the world who might actually be as intelligent as I am. The thought sounded absurd, but I had to test it and now it has gotten to a point of pride. I have to beat him. I am the most intelligent man, so it is only logical that I should. So yes, without the challenge he would be boring, but a challenge would not be valuable if you did not eventually defeat it."
He pushed his hand through his hair as he leaned back. He felt a bit too serious, but that was what happened when he spoke of Batman. He assumed it happened to all the other rogues as well. He then smirked and gave her a playful glance, "But do not fret, he always has a way of surprising me. It only means I have to be prepared."

Nina shifts her head slightly when he turns so that her cheek is resting on it and they can both be close and see each other. She smiles almost reflexively when he taps her nose, but then she simply listens as he explains Batman.
There's been a few times, most notably when talking to Edward about the two times she's met Batman, that she's really seen the way he obsesses about Batman. And it seemed... odd to her. Probably because of the sheer depth of reflexive emotion that Edward shows in regards to the man. The image that comes to mind is Captain Ahab and Moby Dick, but considering what happened to Captain Ahab she chooses not to say so. She hopes that he'll find a better ending than that, but if she's honest she has a hard time picturing it ending well. But it's not like she'd ever be able to talk Edward out of that riddle. She would if she could, but she knows that she can't so she won't try.
Instead she simply states, "Hmm, that makes sense now. Interesting..." And she can't help but smile a little at his last statement. It is somewhat comforting to know how evenly matched those two are. It reminds her of something she'd said to Batman the last time she saw him: 'You've always been good at stopping him. You don't need my help.' She doesn't know that she'd be able to walk the fine line between her love for Edward and her desire to keep others from hurting if Batman weren't there to ease the amount of harm that Edward can cause.
But while Edward seems certain that he'd be satisfied by his victory over Batman if he won that, Nina is rather of the opinion that his boredom would drive him to seek a bigger challenge. Who knows what it would be, but she suspects it could easily be more destructive. For the umpteenth time the feeling comes of being uncertain which side she's on. Perhaps what she wants is a draw of some kind? She doesn't even know! She just doesn't want Edward to get hurt - but she also doesn't want anyone else to get hurt.
"Anything else you want me to see? Or should I get started on dinner?" she asks. The sooner she gets started, the sooner they can eat. But, on the other hand, she's really quite content being where she is right now. Better to leave that difficult choice up to him.

Edward is not particularly sure if he likes Nina's last smile. He's glad that he can make her smile, but she also is smiling over the idea of Batman foiling his plans. Then again, he doesn't find this fact to surprising. Her moral guide was far stricter then his own. He did wonder though, what she would do if Batman did manage to foil his plans.
He smirks at the interesting comment. It was one way to put it. He doubted anyone but himself and the other rogues could understand the meaning behind their obsession. Actually, he doubted most rogues understood it. It was a complex idea that went above the average mind. (Edward still did not relate the obsession to his own insanity because obviously Edward was not insane. Edward was a genius.)
Her mention of dinner caused him to give a nonchalant shrug as he leaned back into the chair. "It's up to you, dear. I was merely having some fun," he smirked again, as he played around on the website, his eyes looking out for any useful information.
The FBI was hardly a threat, but what if Batman did get involve. How would the man do it? If only he could find Batman's own hacking mechanisms. What would happen if Batman even did catch him? Would he hand him over to the FBI?
...No, Edward could not see that happening. Besides it's not like he would get caught, but then again that same riddle popped into his mind.
"Dear, what are you going to do if I am caught?" he asked aloud. He didn't look at her. He seemed completely observed into his computer.

'Interesting' is a good word to describe something that is thought-provoking, but something you have a difficult time actually formulating a comment on. Mostly because what comments Nina would have are probably nothing that Edward would want to hear in addition to being completely useless. Her opinion of Batman is quite different than his, as can only be expected given how vastly different of a role the dark knight has played in their respective lives. She's actually not quite certain what to think about him at this point, and that's not likely to change unless - no, who is she kidding - until she runs into him again. That will be an interesting conversation, she's sure.
His answer to her question gets a smile and she gives his cheek a quick peck as she carefully pushes herself back off the couch and collects her crutches. "Well, tell me if you find anything really interesting," she replies, as she's genuinely curious about what the F.B.I. are doing in Gotham now. She cares about the city itself, after all, and it's hard to get detailed news.
Moving into the kitchen, she starts looking in the cupboards, but suddenly pauses at Edward's question. There's a thoughtful frown on her face when she turns to look at Edward, but it takes her a moment to answer that one. "Well, that depends on exactly who catches you," she starts, mulling that one over, "And whether or not I'm caught at the same time or not." She looks back toward the cupboards and then moves over to check out what's in the fridge as she continues. "If, in the unlikely event, it's anyone besides Batman and I'm caught too... I'd probably be in trouble any way that goes, and I'm not sure what I'd do. If it's Batman... I'm not sure either. Last time I saw him he let me go, but that was a long time ago and I was in a very different situation. Don't know what he'd do, don't know what I'd do." she continues, before pausing to consider what she could make out of what she sees in front of her, but then she nods to herself and starts pulling things out.
"If you're caught and I'm not... that's difficult too. I don't know China. Though I have some very extended family in Japan who might be able and willing to help me. Oh, and my brother - he knows a lot of people who might help me too," she comments, putting her chosen ingredients on the counter near the stove: soy sauce, an onion, a package of shiitake, some green onions, a couple of eggs, and pea pods from the fridge. From the freezer comes a frozen chicken breast. From the cupboard, a small package of rice, a can of chicken stock, and brown sugar. Then she starts fishing around in the drawers for measuring implements, pots and the like. "Any way it goes, I'd try to find somewhere I can hide and that would be tricky to say the least," she says with a troubled frown, glancing over all the gathered stuff for anything missing among her hastily gathered implements and supplies. Moving around in a kitchen with crutches is awkward to say the least, so she'd prefer to get it all over with before she starts actually making something out of it.
But then she pauses and looks up at Edward with a small half-smile. "Do me a favor: don't get caught," she summarizes, knowing full well that's already the plan and that he has a lot of reasons beyond her well-being to do so. "I suppose the best case scenario otherwise would be if it's Batman and he believes that I'm a victim in all this and decides to help me get somewhere safe - but I'd really rather not count on his opinion of the situation," she adds, picking up a pot and a measuring cup and carrying them over to the sink. Given her causal manner throughout, she doesn't seem particularly worried that it'll happen, but the part of her that is worried is very worried. While she may generally like the idea of Batman stopping Edward, she generally dislikes the idea of Batman actually catching him. Is that the end she should be hoping for? Again, she has no idea.
