Even before Nina's own tone turned angry, Shawty's blood was rising. Her sentiments exactly matched Nina's only instead of just admitting to herself that she now despised that bloody F.B.I. Agent more than when he'd swaggered into Stenet Labs, she knew he was dead if he ever came near Nina again. Once was enough to make her list, twice was enough to warrant that the next time she saw him that he'd be getting shot in the head. A darker part of her wished Edward would run into him first—not that she wouldn't love to torture him too. It was just the thought of him in an infamous Riddle Deathtrap, that brings a malicious smirk to her face, but she's silent, her quiet expressing the anger she feels that not only was her employer shot twice, but that one could have killed if she had been anyone else.
“We're meeting up with Mr. Nigma?” She was obviously thrilled, thrilled so much that her voice was just above a deadpan. She had expected as much and if Dr. Stenet's place was found and probably raided, then hers, which was never bought to be secret will probably be a target too. In fact she took a deep breath, “My apartment's next since I'm connected to you. Joy.” She sighed, but she wasn't too down about it. That place is more of a sleeping place than a living place. She has enough money to restock her life. Yet the more important issue was that they were meeting Edward. It didn't take her long to assume that Edward knows their current predicament.
She turned down the street, Murphy Avenue and began to slow down looking for Nina. “I'm here,” she said, “and Mr. Nigma is not going to be pleased with me; more like disgusted, irate, furious, absolutely wrathful.”
And it just as that final word left her mouth in some form of sullen irritation at the situation, she saw Nina and stopped. She shut the phone and rolled down the opposite window. “I also bribed a cab driver, I think I forgot to mention that.”

Nina actually feels a bit sorry for Shawty. Not that she expects, if given the choice, that her assistant wouldn't choose to keep protecting her instead of living freely on the good side of the law, but it would be nice to be able to give her that choice at least. "Could be worse," is all she says, knowing that to be true. There are so many ways that this could easily be a lot worse.
She frowns a little when Shawty starts talking about Edward being angry with her. She'd be shocked if he wasn't, actually. Though before she can respond Nina sees a cab appear with Shawty in the driver's seat. Nina laughs and says, "Yes, you did forget to mention that. Glad that you did, though - we won't have to worry about whether or not we have an overly observant and talkative cab driver." She waits for Shawty to reach her, before resting her hand on Shawty's shoulder so that she can keep weight off of her injured leg.
As they make the short but slow walk over to the cab she says, "Yeah, he'll be angry - which is why I don't want you leaving my sight until the three of us can talk about it; it was my fault things turned out this way - not yours. Should have busted out of there the moment they arrived, but that's hindsight talking. And who knows - that could have turned out worse than this." She sinks with a grateful sigh onto the back seat of the cab, before carefully maneuvering her bad leg into the vehicle. Moving around is going to be such a pain until it's better - figuratively even if it isn't literal at the moment, though eventually she's going to have to restore her ability to feel pain in the limb.

Shawty knew just how much worse it could be, and it's not like she'd not lived on the wrong side before or had ever lived on the right side. It honestly didn't bother her, it was merely a passing thought that brought no pain, just a short chill of realization and then it was gone. Instead she grinned wryly at the comment about the drive. “Yeah, that was one of the first thoughts that went through my head. I didn't need anyone else gossiping, but I'll have to ditch it. I gave the guy permission to say it was stolen, but he got a nice amount for my joyride.” She told her as she walked to Nina to help her to the car. She doesn't need to be asked to do that, it's obvious. As they maneuvered, Shawty took notice of the cuff around her wrist. She'd obviously broken the other.
“I'd like to pick that other cuff, if you don't mind...and if Mr. Nigma doesn't beat us to the meeting point. It'll give me something to do.” She admitted as Nina got in slowly, revealing to at least her the nerves she was feeling. She was terrified of what was going to happen to her, even though Nina's words are slightly soothing. She shut the door and said nothing more as she returned to the driver's seat and once again put the car into gear. “I won't leave your sight, but his ill-feelings are, you're right, expected. He deserves to be angry. I'm supposed to protect you and look what happened. I don't feel like it's your fault. I feel like it's mine.” She was terrified, but at the same time, she felt like she deserved to be punished. Her feelings toward Nina weren't anything like Edward's, but she felt a deep respect and friendship towards the woman. Dr. Stenet knew her past and how violent it had been and yet she trusted her with her life, her work.
She looked ahead at the road and cleared her throat to try and dislodge the lump forming there. “Anyway...you're going to have to give me directions, Dr. Stenet.”

Smiling at Shawty's offer to help with the other handcuff, Nina says, "Sure, if you want. Or I can show you how I broke the other one." She just hasn't bothered to stop and take the time to do it, since it's not especially high on her list of priorities. Like right now: she'll probably spend the whole drive over to meet Edward checking over the bullet wounds in her knee to make sure she isn't bleeding much.
Nina frowns as Shawty blames herself, but offers directions first. "Head for East Gotham, near those warehouses by the dockyards - I'll be more specific when we get close." She never did tell Shawty where any of Edward's places that she knows about are since it's not like her assistant would need to know. The only reason she'd have to go there is if she's with Edward, and if she's with Edward then she doesn't additional protecting. Normally, anyway - and they've strayed far from normal today.
"And if you have to feel like it's your fault, that's up to you. But the fact is, we both had every reason to believe that wouldn't happen, and we both were wrong. You can't fault a person for not knowing something that they couldn't have known. I know that Edward is going to try, but at the end of the day I told you to stand down. And it's my fault," she says easily, completely convinced of that.

“No, I'd like to do it, like I said, it'll give me something to focus on.” Shawty replied as she began to drive, her destination in her mind. “You know, I know East Gotham like the back of my hand. That is my girls' turf.” She focused on that a moment with a smile before she allowed herself to address the last of Nina's words. “And yeah, we didn't know would happen, but it's not like I'm surprised now that it has. That guy rubbed me the wrong way from the beginning. I stand beside you, though, Dr. Stenet, and I did believe that following your order was the best course, after all if I hadn't I would be dead by now and that death wouldn't have aided in protecting you, instead it would have made you an easier target.” And that was the nearly the last thing she said before they reached East Gotham and she was given more accurate directions which led them to being parked on an abandoned street, the smell of the water wafting in the air, and their cab surrounded by various other warehouses.
It looked seedy, as if some criminal would be hiding in the shadows just waiting for some lost civilian to become lost, but it was quiet, well except for the sounds of Shannon messing with the cuff on Nina's hand. She held the woman's wrist with one of her hands, while the other was busy with a pin she'd pulled from her bag, prodding and jiggling in the lock. The car was immobile and though, she was concentrated on the handcuff, Shannon was also alert for the sound of any motor vehicles as well as lights. It could have meant Edward had arrived to get them or someone much pleasant. In case one, everything would be fine. If case two, Shannon could handle it. Her gun, returned...or rather she'd swiped it back from the police, sat in her lap as she fumbled with the lock.
They had been sitting there for a few minutes when Shannon smiled and the handcuff clicked. She stuffed the item in her bag, not wanting to leave for anyone else to find. She could dispose of it whenever an opportunity showed itself. She clipped her gun into her holster and sat back, adrenaline slowly ebbing. So far they seemed home free. She hoped it stayed that way.

Allen pulled into the abandoned street where the blinking dot had stopped. As their car turned in, Edward noted the yellow taxi immediately. Hadn't Nina informed him that her idiotic body guard was picking her up or had she become incapable of that job as well? Allen pulled the dark green car behind the cab, stopping only a foot away from the yellow trunk. Edward put on his light purple gloves, out of precaution of leaving prints. "Remember what I told you," he stated back to Allen as he grabbed his cane and opened the passenger side door. He locked the door before standing out of the vehicle and shutting it. He then turned to the cab.
His face was blank of emotions. This day had brought on many conflicting feelings. He felt successful for convincing the Joker in his plan, but also irritated the man managed to snag most of his current income. He felt this nausea turning feeling in his stomach and heart that he now realized came from worry. He felt a crunch around his heart that he now knew was guilt....and finally, he felt angry, that probably could be seen on how his jaw was locked and how tight his hand was gripping his cane.
He hurried over to the car, and felt relief in seeing Nina through the window. He couldn't see her entire face, but she seemed somewhat alright, at least she was breathing. He threw open her door not liking the separation at all. Of course, the first thing his eyes lock with is the bloody wound on her knee cap. He flinches for a bare moment before turning her gaze to her face. Beside for appearing emotionally exhausted, and a little scuffed up she appeared fine.
Because of his leg he had never been able to bend his knees probably to communicate with people who were sitting below him, but at this point he didn't even notice his leg. His cane fell from his hand and he bent down and grabbed her into a huge hug. His face was buried into her hair as he breathed her in. He hadn't realized how truly worried he had been until that moment of seeing her in front of him. "I apologize, dear," he said softly into her ear before turning in and kissing what ever is there. "I have been one step ahead of them this whole time. I hadn't considered them bringing you into all of this. I should have known. It was such a simple puzzle. They are like kids," he paused in his rambling as he squeezed her tighter. He was reminded of middle school bullies. The FBI was just a bunch of bullies. They were stupid and because they were stupid they had no difficulties throwing away their honor.

It only would have taken Nina a few moments to remove the remaining handcuff herself, but she is in the habit of letting people do things that make them feel better. Besides, it does give her that much more time to concentrate on her knee. When it's removed, she reflexively rubs her wrist where it laid, glad to be rid of that reminder of the day's events. If only the other one could be fixed so easily!
It isn't much longer until she sees the dark green car pull up behind them and her heart leaps inside her when she sees Edward hurrying toward her. She'd thought that she was relieved when she'd heard his voice on the phone, but she was wrong - she's relieved now. She grabs him tightly when he bends down, a very large part of her never wanting to let go of him again. Simply being able to touch him again after all that's happened makes all her other worries vanish, as if absolutely everything is guaranteed to turn out perfectly from now on.
When he turns a little, she gives him a quick peck on the lips, murmuring back, "It's not your fault. And I'm okay - it'll heal. We'll just be a matched set for awhile." Her tone not only indicates her relief, but that she's in reasonably good spirits. Sure she's angry at Agent Tiff, upset with herself for not making a different decision back in the lab, and most of all frustrated at suddenly finding herself in this position, but she has every hope that things will only get better from here. She has Edward on her side, after all.

Shannon had tensed at the lights from behind them, but when Edward steps from the vehicle she relaxes and then when he opens Dr. Stenet's door and falls to embrace her, she simply turns her attention to straight in front of her. It isn't that she's disgusted by the display of affections beside her—she's not—it's that none of it's her business. This is their moment, and she has no right to interrupt it, nor she does want to. She also would have felt strange had she just ogled them, so she says nothing. She just stares ahead and thinks about other important things to her.
Her gun is back and loaded, she feels better about that. Dr. Stenet is also alright and has been reunited with Edward. They're very happy to see one another and she can't blame Edward for his reaction, she actually smiles to herself at it. He really was worried and for once in a positive manner she can relate, though her relief was as some protector, like a mother. She carefully leaned back and looked at the taxi keys, still sitting in the ignition. She wonders next what to do with those. They won't find any of her prints and even if they get hair samples from the seat and decide she's wanted for Grand Theft Auto, she's not too concerned. She had a legitimate reason and the guy took a bribe. It was an emergency. Yet back to the issue of the keys, she's not even really listening to the couple or whatever they are beside her. She can hear them, but they're still paying attention to each other, and so she's not important.
She could leave the keys, it doesn't matter whether that's suspicious, they're seven blocks away from his warehouse according to Nina. She could also just get out of the car and toss them, make it seem like a real theft. She grimaces, no, she decides to just leave them. She really didn't steal the car and the guy deserves his keys back, even if she did have to pay the bastard four-hundred dollars just to borrow it. Grimy, little, insane taxi drivers. She brings up one of her gloved hands and places it over her face. She just goes limp. She's not sleeping, she's not dead, she's just reveling that for the moment it's all over. There's no F.B.I., no arrogant Agent Tiffany asking questions and shooting people.
Wait, Dr. Stenet's laptop! She sits up and looks to Dr. Stenet, but purses her lips. She can ask about that when they're done, she's content not to be the center of attention. In fact, it makes life easier in a way to not be deemed a threat since people will just overlook you. She doesn't care about having attention. She doesn't move anymore now, she just sits there, once again staring ahead. Dr. Stenet and Edward know she's there when she's needed or wanted.

A broken smirk appeared on his face at Nina's words. While he enjoyed her attempt to lighten the mood, her causal calm remarks only made him feel worst. His grip went into her hair as he pulled his face away to look at hers. How could she be so calm? How could she not be angry over the entire situation? Edward couldn't even properly explain how furious he was. He stroked the side of her cheek with his thumb. Even though he was wearing gloves, it was nice to see that he was touching her. She wasn't an allusion the FBI had tricked him with. Then how was she so calm?
He pressed his lips together firmly, as he puzzled over the entire mess. He would fix this. He had too. He was only one step away from getting Nina out of her. He just had to talk with Selina. He would then handle the FBI himself. He would not allow fools to play with his life. He had given those ways up when he had first taken on the title of the Riddler. When he noticed movement out of the corner of his eyes, he glanced at it.
He finally realized the midget's presence, and his hand tightened both in Nina's hair and around her waist. He had admitted to himself that the FBI hurting Nina was his fault. Even though Nina would take responsibility for it, Edward knew the truth. He had failed, and one of his biggest failures was allowing that short idiot to take care of Nina.
He knew Nina cared for the girl though, and normally, when handling his own men's failures he would not take Nina's feelings into account. However, this was her guard. He couldn't ignore Nina, so the best option was to handle the midget away from Nina. He also didn't want to upset her when her life was still in the balance.
He forced a smile at Nina, as his mind had already come up with an answer. He then kissed her again, holding her against his lips for a longer period then necessary but he wanted to feel her skin against his. He had to express his joy in her safety, but he also wanted to make sure he got the kiss in before Nina decided not to talk to him again. Once Nina found out what he planned to do, he knew she would be angry with him and would probably object to spending time with him.
When he pulled away he wore a more real smile. He awkwardly moved himself back out of the car, as he grabbed his cane. When he was standing, he put his free hand out in front of her to take. "Since I've had far more experiences with useless limbs, I'm certain I will be a spectacular teacher. Though was their any doubt?," he remarked with a smirk. He would assist Nina to his car. He also knew he would be able to hold her close if he helped her, and he quietly enjoyed that idea.
He then commented a bit colder to the midget, "Wipe the car of all or any prints." He saw the midget was wearing gloves, and he himself was wearing gloves, but Nina was not. He would not have her blamed for a missing cab as well.

When Edward pulls back and studies her face, he'd see her wearing the softest of smiles. While a great part of her calm is simply having Edward with her now, another is her inherent tendency to be calmer than one would expect regardless of the situation. What mainly matters to her is that she got out of there alive and that Shawty and Edward are unharmed - as long as she has that much, she's sure she can overcome all the other problems all of this will cause. And since none of them are before her now, why worry about them now?
Especially since she has a very hard time recalling that there's anything she might want to worry about in the first place while Edward is showing her affection. At least until she feels his hands tighten and notices the direction of his glace. Ah, that's right - need to worry about him and Shawty. While she's certain that there's bound to be some fall out from that, she's also certain that whatever it is will go better for Shawty if she's there for it - if only because she'd be able to yell at him then.
Fortunately, his second kiss causes her to set aside that thought for the moment, simply allowing herself to be doubly reassured that she's really here with Edward and not stuck in the back of that van or fleeing at high speed from ominous black cars. Anything else that happens today ought to be child's play by comparison.
Her own smile has gotten bigger as he pulls away again, and she uses her hands to carefully maneuver her injured limb out of the vehicle before taking the offered hand to help her get to her feet - or foot, actually, given that she's certain that any weight at all on her injured limb would probably do a lot of damage. Knees are actually quite delicate structures, and it would be stupid of her to make it any worse - especially since she's numbed the pain and that would warrant extra caution since she's without the body's natural reminder to be careful. "Of course not, you're a world expert - I should pay you. Well, except I doubt the FBI will overlook my bank account. The check wouldn't go through," she comments with a frown at the end, though it's too small to be serious. Both of them know how little Nina cares about her money.
Then, rather than holding onto his near shoulder to help herself along, which would be slightly more efficient, she chooses the far one since the bonus that comes with being helped to the car by him occurred to her as well. And she'll take the precaution of matching her steps to his stride so that he takes her extra weight only on his good leg. Even as those details come to mind, she glances back at over at Shawty with an apologetic look, wishing that those two could find some way to get along.

She continued to pay little mind to the two next to her, though she was watching out of her periphery so she caught the more than displeased stare she received from Edward. She also noted his tensing. She clenched her jaw. He thought he understood the circumstances, but he was out of this riddle. What was unseen to those looking in, but all but obvious to those in the epicenter? The truth, and that was what Edward was lacking. He hadn't been there when the F.B.I. had come, but she wanted nothing more than to explain to him that if she had done anything, Nina would most likely be dead. If she had attacked the F.B.I. Her master would be to blame, Dr. Stenet, and thus the woman would have been in trouble and Shannon's 'protection' would have been more like a death sentence. She kept her mouth shut, however, she'd explain herself and she knew at the least, Dr. Stenet knew that her thought was logical.
What had happened, if it was anyone's fault, it was Edward's because he was the one they questioned her about, he put her in the this mess. If it wasn't for him she'd not be needed in the first place. She shut her eyes, but had relaxed once Edward had spoken to her. She ignored his icy tone as she turned and nodded.
“Of course, Mr. Nigma.” She had been planning on do that, she knew how to clean up and cover her tracks. She waited until Dr. Stenet was out of the car before she grabbed the paper towels and cleaning solution, those cabbies always kept in the glove compartment and stood up. She caught Nina's apologetic look, but only frowned and turned away to begin wiping down the interior of the car. She wanted to get along with him, but he had to go thinking that just because in this instance she was a bodyguard, she knew nothing and was below him. She snorted; if only he knew.
She carefully replaced the cleaning solution and unused towels. Throwing what she had used to be caught by the light wind that blew. They weren't telling and would have nothing useful on them.

He gripped onto her waist and pulled her body close to his. He couldn't help the small smirk from forming on his face at the comment. It was true and for that fact slightly depressing and humorous at the same time. Even though he had his bum leg, he still had no problem carrying most of her weight. At this point, he really didn't notice the pain in his leg at all. If anything it was a mere itching sensation to him in the far back of his mind.
Feeling Nina's arm around his back only brought his true focus to the woman who had manage to captivate him. She could be so light hearted and serious. He loved her contradiction in her personality, and even though, she was hurt, he loved that she was here with him. He inwardly frown at how angry she would be with him in a few moments, but at this moment, he enjoyed their closeness. He didn't even pay attention to the pathetic guard's remark. He turned his head and kissed her hair in an affectionate manner. "You will just have to pay me in another way," he stated as he helped her the short distance to the car.
When they got there, he opened up the front seat and helped her into the car. He looked past her at Allen who eyes seemed to be staring through the cab window trying to catch a glimpse of the girl before he turned his focus to the woman who had just been put in the seat next to him. When Allen's eyes locked with his boss, he nodded in understanding. Edward then looked at Nina.
"Again, I'm sorry, but I have always been talented at fixing things," he stated before kissing her forehead. He didn't wait for a response, he stood up and shut the door. As soon as the door shut, Allen locked the car and put his foot on the gas and started driving away. Edward looked at the car as it drove. He cared for Nina and didn't want her to see how he planned to fix the mistake. He would see her soon at his warehouse. The Doctor was already there, and he would take a look at her kneecap. Yes, it was better if Nina was tended to and not bothered by this simple work affair.
Though, he hoped Nina wouldn't do anything drastic in the car. Edward turned his attention back to the cab with a glare. He then started walking over slowly as he pulled out his gun. "I have never cared for preemptive murder, but as Fred Gipson has taught me, sometimes things just need to be put down."

"Oh?" Nina says to his first remark, though she leaves it at that. She's mostly just looking forward to getting somewhere she can finally feel safe so that she can rest and figure out what else she needs to do now that all of this has happened.
At first his second statement just causes a confused blink, but the alarm bells are going off in her mind even before he shuts the door. When the doors lock the realization of what he's doing hits her like a flash, and what she does next is practically instinct. Within seconds, one hand flips the door's lock to unlock it again, the other opens the door, and the foot of her good leg gets jammed between the opening door and her seat. And as soon as the door swings wide enough, she uses her good leg to shove herself away from the car, her arms raised in front of her face to protect it from the landing, not far from the front of the parked cab.
She rolls sideways a few times when she hits, though fortunately she managed to be quick enough that the car hadn't built up too much speed. She lays there for a moment when she comes to rest, having surprised herself by her rash actions, though in the back of her mind at least she knew that if she was quick enough then abruptly bailing out of the car wouldn't kill her - and knowing that she'd survive was enough to make this stunt worth it in her book. And Edward should have known that - though with the way he esteems Shawty's life as nothing he probably hadn't even considered just how far Nina is willing to go to keep her assistant alive. The mere fact that he tried to use such tactics to get her away from the scene tells her enough to know that there's no place she'd rather be at the moment, even if she has to face a little road rash to accomplish it.
Taking just a moment to verify that she's still intact, new bruises and nasty scrapes aside, Nina's head turns toward Edward and gives him a furious glare. 'Angry' doesn't quite cut it.

Shannon stood watching Edward walk towards her, face devoid of emotion even as he extracted his pistol. She crossed her arms and tilted her head, “Really, I'd not put something such as preemptive murder beyond you, but perhaps you should put down your conclusions first because you weren't there, you don't know the truth of the matter.” She continued to observe him, moving into an attack stance. She wouldn't kill him, but there was no way she was going to allow him to wound her lethally if she could help it.
But her attention on Edward was taken away when Nina jumped from the moving vehicle driven by Allen. She doesn't waste a glance to Edward. She turned and scaled the cab before landing on the ground and rushing to Nina's side.
“Dr. Stenet,” she fell at her side, shaking her head. “Are you alright?” Her voice was breathless as she looked her employer over and then she shook her head, sighing. “You're an idiot.” But she wasn't very angry, instead she gave Nina a small smile and moved to help the doctor again to her feet, positioning herself to take the weight from her wounded leg.

Edward smirked at the girl's comment. Didn't know the truth? He was the Riddler, and if there was one thing he was good at, it was determining the truth. As far as he was concern, a guard had failed at her job and therefore should be fired. But before he could voice his statement back, he heard a thud on the ground and turned to see Nina hitting the road.
His eyes widened for a moment, slightly confused on what had occurred. He then heard the breaks of his car as it slammed to a stop. He watched as the door was pushed open and Allen's large form that only appeared larger when coming out of a small car appeared. His eyes fell back to Nina's and just by one glance he knew she was furious. The idiot midget had ran over to her immediately, but Edward stayed in place. His hand still holding his gun, his mouth slightly a gape, and his eyes blinking like a confused kid.
Idiot.
She was a complete idiot!
Her knee was already shattered why would she put herself in more risk. Why would she do something so dramatic? Hadn't she asked him on multiple occasions to do his work out of her presence. He was doing just that. Her freak out over Allen over a month ago came to mind. When he finally decides to give her what she wants, she fights to stay. She was a complete idiotic hypocrite. He couldn't even voice his frustration because he was too baffled over it. So stupid. Completely stupid. Why did he put up with her stupidity? Did she want to kill herself? Stupid. Just stupid.
Luckily, Allen wasn't stunned. He walked right over to the Doctor and the little midget. He glanced at the blond and grinned. "Hey cutie pie. Hope you don't mind, but imma on the clock," he said with that same grinned. He then bent down next to the two girls and easily plucked Nina from the ground and threw her over his shoulder. "Sorry Doc, but you gotta appointment," he said, with a less then thrilled voice. His free hand was already gripping his automatic.
