Nina is definitely going to be feeling this one tomorrow. Probably for a few days, actually, and that's not even including one of her legs from the knee down that can't presently feel anything at all. Still, she's all in one piece, so as far as she's concerned she's just fine - assuming that she didn't reopen anything in her knee. She checks on that quickly with her power while she lets Shawty help her up.
However, she doesn't say a word in response to Shawty - she's too busy yelling at Edward, "Really, Edward? Do you have any idea how much crap I've had to put up with today? And you have to add to it now?! It's not her fault, Edward. And I need her." As she yells her body shakes a little - though how much of it is due to anger and how much of it is due to the physical shock is anyone's guess.
But then her yelling is interrupted when Allen grabs her, though that mostly just causes her rage to shift from Edward onto him. "Put me down or I'll make you put me down," she tells him between clenched teeth, completely serious. It's obvious that the woman has simply had it by now, and already she's using her power to find the nerve in his shoulder that controls his arm. Edward's the one who she can't bring herself to touch with her power in this way, not Allen. She'll only wait long enough for him to give some an indication one way or the other which it will be - either way she'll end up back on the ground. The real choice for Allen is whether or not he'll insist on attempting to do what Edward wants or spare Nina the fall and himself a paralyzed arm - either way Nina's going to get back on the ground.

Shannon said nothing to Allen at first as he came to pick up Nina, though she slowly returned the smile at the nickname he'd given her. She stood up and wiped off her pants before looking at Allen. “I'd put her down, if you don't she'll paralyze your arm perhaps permanently.” She told him regretfully. “I don't want you getting hurt.” She told him honestly before looking at Nina.
She smiled softly, and when she spoke she made sure she was hear by everyone. “I can see his reasoning, Dr. Stenet. He wasn't there, in all purposes if I was in his shoes, I'd jump to the same conclusions and want to do the same thing. I know where he's coming from.” She put her hands in her pockets and turned back to regard Edward.
“But listen, Mr. Nigma, I was given an order to stand down, we were surrounded by FBI and it doesn't matter how good a shot I am, or how good I am at attacking physically. Even if I had been able to take them out, Dr. Stenet would be in more trouble. If I had attacked I'd not have been protecting her, I'd have been signing her death warrant. That would have been a failure of my job. It was to be a mere questioning and in that guise, it's better to cooperate than to bring even more suspicion on her.”
'I have to you thank for that, by way, Mr. Nigma,' she snarled in her head, though she had been speaking levelly and calmly otherwise. 'If you hadn't gotten involved with her, she wouldn't need a bodyguard, she wouldn't be questioned by the FBI, and she wouldn't be shot. Why don't you stick that in your pipe and smoke it!' She merely clenched her jaw on the outside, however, frowning in irritation that this had really gone so far. If he really wanted to point fingers he should have looked at himself. He was the origin of it all, but Dr. Stenet was right, they'd been through enough today. Couldn't he wait and try and murder her tomorrow at the least?

Edward was still in a confused stupor when Nina started shouting at him. He didn't understand where the furious attitude was coming on. He was actually trying to respect her wish of not handling his business in front of her, and he still gets yelled at. This was why he detested women in general. They were fickle creature like the wind and their logic relied highly too much on their feelings. He was angry, and he found himself gripping the handle on his gun tighter.
Not her fault. It certainly was her fault. She was asked to do one thing, protect Nina, and she couldn't successfully accomplish that. When the disgrace started justifying the reasons she couldn't help he only became more angry. A body guard is suppose to be able to manipulate themselves to best suit their surroundings. Physical force was obviously not the best choice, but providing the FBI with false truth was. He knew Nina. She probably kept her mouth shut, which only made them suspicious. She had done a similar tactic to him when he had first met her. It was why he was drawn to her because he wanted to find the answers. With the FBI, you give them the answer they think they want. Nina might not be able to provide that, but the 'disgrace' could have. She was failure and needed to be replaced.
Instead of voicing these thoughts though, his eyes fell to the ground in irritation. He really just wanted Nina to go to the warehouse, and he would handle the fired guard. Why did she have to be so dramatic and make everything difficult?
Allen heard the threat and knew it was true. He might not be as smart as the rest of em, but he saw what the crazy chick could do. He also saw how furious his boss was. It was either deal with the crazy girl who still was somewhat kind or his boss...who would lodge a bullet in his head. Even a dumb monkey could figure that answer out.
The munchkins reply made him smile. He liked her. He wouldn't mind taken her somewhere romantic or some shit like that, but he also knew it wasn't his place to play knight in shinnin armor for her. She had to tell with his boss, and he had to do his job. "Thanks for the warnin' cutie pie," he said as he shifted Nina in his arms. It almost looked like he was going to put her down. He used both of his arms even the one with the gun to move her off his shoulder and twist her to face his boss. If he was going to put her down, he would put her down the way he picked her up. But he didn't put her down. Right as her feet touched the down, he brought the blunt of his gun, in a short small distance, down hard into her carotid sinus, which he knew would knock her out instantly, and unless the chick was a mind reader there was no way she could expect that. He had been workin the streets for years now, and one of the first things you learn is how to knock people out.
Knowin' that his boss just wanted the chick out of here, and knowin' that the chick didn't want to leave, it seemed like the best idea. But like his boss told him, he wasn't suppose to be the idea man. Well...if his boss yells at him...then so be it.

It would be perfectly fair to say that Nina is acting more emotionally than rationally at the moment. Then again, she's not being completely irrational either. It's not simply dramatics that caused her to throw herself out of the car, though she's too furious at the moment to explain that to Edward properly - he'd have no idea how important it is to Nina to have her assistant alive and intact in the near future, even beyond simply not wanting him to hurt her.
She sighs as she feels Allen shifting her off of his shoulder. Could it be that there's going to be an end to the madness of today? No, apparently not - the blow to her head catches her completely off guard and she collapses before she's really aware of just what happened.

Shannon felt her heart lodge in her throat when Nina was knocked out. For a moment she felt utterly lost. She didn't want to die. She could feel a winter enter into her, dissect her to the core. She didn't shiver outwardly, but she wanted to. She did whimper, finally not caring.
She stumbled back and crumpled against the door of the car. She punched the exterior, face construing into a tortured expression. She didn't cry and it seemed as if she was working hard to keep her emotions in check, but she was cracking. She shook her head and shut her eyes and slammed her fists again and again into the car behind her. "I don't even know what's she's talking about with needing me, like I'm so important.” She scoffed in self-hate. “Obviously she doesn't need me. I'm trying, I thought this was my chance to make up for my previous life, to finally protect the kind of people I hurt when I was in the Sirens and I go and I fuck it up. I messed up. I shouldn't have listened to her. Why does she still need me? She could have died...It was my fault, not hers. I wish she would just tell me that. I want the blame, because I am responsible for it. I could have defied her.” She did feel responsible, had from the moment she'd heard the news from the woman of what had happened to her. “She doesn't need to protect me. You think I feel like I deserve to live right now? She's my friend and I let her get hurt...I feel like dying, I feel like I betrayed her. I don't deserve to be needed, so why does she just yell something like that?"
She clenched her fists, angry with herself. “I'm not just some nut she picked up off the street. I was a member of the Sirens here in East Gotham, hell I led them! I've been in your position, Mr. Nigma, having to punish people for failing to do what I thought surely had to be a simple job. I know what's going on in your head and why you're angry. I've had to deal with the F.B.I. before and usually they're not allowed to shoot people. Intimidate them? Yeah...but,” she took a deep breath and brought her head into her hands. Her mind was abuzz with too much emotion and words and she felt like she was drowning. “I'm not making an excuse, I have all that experience, I should have known better. I should have. I was given an order and I thought it was logical then. You heard me already say it, but I was wrong for following it, I see that now. You want me to say I failed? I failed alright? I FAILED! I'm sorry,” she looked up. “I am, I know how bad this could have gone, how badly it did and it makes me sick. It's my fault, I take the blame, but I don't want to die...I'm terrified of death.”
“Nina said she needed me, though, no matter how much I don't understand it and I'm not sure what else you want me to do or say, but I'm conditioned to be true to my word, not to show weakness and I'm doing that, showing emotions that make me feel like a child to show you how seriously I take this. Nina gave me an implicit order to live, though, and I can't fail her again. I won't even if I feel like I deserve whatever it is you do to me.” She straightened again.
“Would you like me to break my promise to her? An order is an order. Shoot me if you want, I get it, but I have to live for her because she still thinks I'm of use and I still have an objective to fulfill.” She began walking towards him, now with a determined air surrounding her once again.

Edward had been staring at Nina with that same dumb expression until Allen knocked her out. He blinked as he watched the big man catch her, and throw her back over his shoulders. He didn't know if he was furious with Allen taking action without his approval or thankful that he didn't have to have another fight with Nina at the moment.
He settled with a nod and glare towards the car that told him to leave. Allen rolled his eyes at the look and headed off in that direction. He hadn't even focused back on the 'problem' when the thing started to rant. He listened, half heartedly. He didn't care for her excuses. He didn't care for her lecture. He didn't care for the justification of her life. He only slowly walked towards her, his gun still in his hand.
Nina didn't know what she needed, and for that reason, he didn't take her reasoning to heart. Edward knew what was best for her. Edward could protect her. A henchmen had little use.
He double checked Nina and Allen real quick. The big man was putting her in the car.
"I always enjoyed studying Japan. Do you know why the US had to drop the nuclear bomb to win WWII?" he asked with a smirk. He didn't wait for a response he pulled the trigger.
"Boss, she's al'ight," Allen's words distracted him as the big man spoke right when he pulled it. His hand shifted just slightly, so instead of the perfect aim at the girl's head it went down to the side of her neck and collarbone.
Hopefully, it would hit her jugular, and he wouldn't have waste another bullet.

Shannon narrowed her eyes, not even flinching when the gun went off. Instead she ducked, wasting no time to listen as the bullet whizzed passed her and bounced off the concrete to embed itself elsewhere. Instead she launched herself at Edward, closing the distance between them rapidly. Eyes flickered to the barrel of the gun and simultaneously she grabbed it in both hands. Using one hand, she forced his with gun down as far she could manage and then she brought her foot and planted in his chest with a sturdy kick during which she wrenched the gun from his hand and leaped back
She expertly removed the magazine, pocketing it, before holding out the pistol again to him to take. She had a point to prove, she could do her job and if he thought she wasn't paying attention, she had her awareness specially split to keep tabs on both him and his henchmen. As much as she liked Allen; his first impression was a good one, he at least gave her some courtesy he wasn't getting any upper hand on her. She was all tense and serious, but there was a casual, controlling air about her as she stared at Edward. When she spoke it was cold in seriousness, not anger.
“Sorry, but I had to disarm you. The U.S.A. is a narcissistic country and can't accept anything more than a complete, and unconditional surrender. They don't want to compromise because they just can't stand being wrong. Told you I was going to live, your shot was sloppy, you let yourself get distracted. My pride just couldn't allow me to take that bullet, but I also have Dr. Stenet's orders. I respect you, but I don't have to listen to you. My orders come from Dr. Stenet and you, you're obviously not her. Stop focusing on yourself, see the larger picture. Dr. Stenet told me to stand down to protect you. If I had acted, we'd have been more suspicious, and that would have made more trouble for you. I wish she had told me to attack, but no. She had to do things her way.” She grimaced, not pleased at that thought. Dr. Stenet just had to go and protect this guy. She certainly didn't think he deserved that care, just as he didn't think she could handle her job.
“Why don't you show her appreciation? She took two bullets for you, meaning the second shot, she could have easily disabled the man shooting her. You don't get shot once and expect not be shot again. She let herself be shot instead of giving them the information they wanted. You owe her, but maybe you'd just like to keep killing things and people she cares about. For such a genius, you don't understand her at all.”

Nina moans quietly in the back of the car, only halfway conscious. All she's really aware of is that she has a splitting headache, as any attempt on her part to think, move, or do anything else at all seems to just make the headache worse. Her eyes flicker open, but then close almost immediately when it proves to be headache-aggravatingly bright. Still, she saw just enough to know that she's in Edward's car and nobody is in it with her.
Why is she in Edward's car? The appropriate memory for that doesn't seem to be forthcoming and her attempts to find it only makes the headache worse. On top of that, she's gradually becoming aware of the fact that not just her head but nearly every other part of her - except, oddly, her leg - seems to be at least aching. Obviously she's hurt, obviously she needs help, so where is Edward?
She's also vaguely aware of a sound in the distance, though she's hardly able to focus well enough to recognize Shawty's voice. Instead she takes that as a sign that she isn't entirely alone. "Edward?" she calls out, though her voice comes out weakly enough that the word hardly escapes her lips. Still, it's enough to cause her head to ache just a little. Knowing that she has to do better than that anyway, headache or not, she braces herself and tries harder, "Edward?" She flinches at the sound of her own voice, but at least this time it should have been audible to someone else. She thinks. Just to make sure, she tries it a third time. "Edward!" she calls out, her voice as weak and pathetic as a lost kitten.
Allen may have said that she's all right, but she's of a very different opinion on that. Sure she may be in no immediate danger physically but, as far as she can tell, she's hurt, alone, and has no real idea where she is or what's going on. But if she's in Edward's car then he or someone who can get him must be around here somewhere. And as far as she's concerned at the moment, she doesn't care where he is or what he's doing - he should be here, making this terrible headache go away.

The sound of a large gun clicking into place echoed through the alley. "Cutie pie, can't let ya do that," the big large man near the car stated as he pointed his machine gun at the small girl. "Lucky for me, aimin' isn't necessary."
Edward was on the ground in a childish fury. Had this child literally kicked him? The pain in his stomach told him the answer to that riddle. He barely listened to her nonsense she considered logic. His cane was still in his hand as he sat on the dirty ground. He could feel the muck through his gloves, and he was positive that his suit would be stained. Thank goodness he kept a large stock on supply. As soon as hit the ground though another part of his mind was judging the situation. His eyes darted to the flexible young girl, to the his car, to the cab, to Allen, then back to the very ground he sat on. Yes, he would admit that his shot was poorly aim, but as always, Nina had caused him to make a mistake. She was almost too much of a hassle then she was worth. He rolled his eyes at the comments that escaped the blond as he shifted his cane against the cement. He then pushed himself off the ground.
"The reason the United States went to such extreme measures was not because of their pride, but because of Japan's stubbornness. The Japanese culture holds a high value to honor and for that reason it would continue down a hopeless path even though the outcome is still the same. They would cause destruction and lost far more than necessary because of their stubbornness. I will not allow the stubbornness of one person to derail the safety of myself and hers. For that reason drastic measure should be taken. If you choose to listen to to the pure idiocy that can escape that woman's mouth and only escalate her insane ideas then you do not possess the skills I require in protecting her," he bite out in an irritated tone as he brushed his dirty suit off. The mud would certainly bury deep. Damn, this child. As he brushed off the mud his hand dipped into his pocket for a lollipop.
"Dear, I understand Nina's choice. All of her choices are for what she perceives are for the best, but what would have provided me more faith in the job that you were required to do, keep her safe, would be if you had gone with her," he paused for a moment before giving a cocky smirk, "How? I am sure you are asking. Well I hope you have enough intelligence that you could have figured that predicament out," he stated as he looked at her with cold eyes. He judged the street they sat in. He judged the girl's distance away from the dumpster and fire escape behind her. "The true riddle you must ask yourself is how long do direct orders from a superior provide protection from punishment? Every Nazi soldier has faced that question and the answer they have received is usually death."
He grabbed hold of what he was looking for in his pocket, but it certainly was not a tootsie pop. He was about to use what was in his hand when he heard his name. His eyes shot to the car.
Shit. She really just needed to get to Doctor Leam as fast as possible. He wanted to send Allen away with her, but at this current time, he needed Allen in the position he was in: a gun pointed at the dumb ass blond.
(OOC:sry for late update and sry for any grammar spelling mistakes...I've been drinkin' so this isn't my best. Hope it's still good enough! I will try to post more again ^^)

Shawty simply scoffed at Edward and rolled her eyes, though her body tensed at Nina's cries, but they weren't for her so she didn't move. Instead she gave Edward an unamused look. She didn't think he even deserved answers to his bullshit, yeah that what she thought about it all. She simply crossed her arms and lifted a brow.
“You gonna answer her or are you stand there and continue to argue circles with me? Because I've already answered your dilemma about three times now. For someone of such a high intellect you sure like to repeat the same thing over and over again. Ya tell me, what's more important Dr. Stenet or little ol' me? Because I'll tell ya...your priorities stink.”
She raised her hand to her hair and pulled it down from the pony-tail she'd had it in. “And don't worry about me moving, I'll stay right here. And while you're over there, why don't ya tell her to make me quit? If it wasn't for the respect I have of her, I'd have been gone already...I'm not really keen on arguing with a guy who's more of a child than I look.” She was really sick of him.
She held no loyalty to him and her respect for Nina was slowly not even becoming enough to put up with him. If he didn't like her, he should have just gotten Nina to fire her from the get go. She nonchalantly turned her gaze from Edward, showing just how important she thought he was. She was sick of putting with his cyclic arguments for the night, she was sick of his vanity. She didn't even care his man having that other gun aimed at his head.
She looked at Allen boredly. “You'd think I'd shot him with how you're acting. Nah, I just bruised his ego a little bit.” But if you think I'm going to let you shoot me...you got another thing coming. Neither you or your employer are on my act civilly to list...though, you're just on it because you work for him at the moment. Nothing really personal. Were the unspoken comments she held to herself and she simply preoccupied herself staring elsewhere.

Nina hears something, a sound that makes her tense even before she identifies it. Allen's voice... Why does Allen's voice bother her so much? Logically, she should be glad that he's around if she's hurt - he'd do his best to take care of her. But logic is at sharp odds with her instinct, which tells her that she definitely does not want him around. If only she could remember what's going on! Or at least be able to tell what he said, but her brain seems too busy complaining about how much it hurts to work that hard.
A moment later, and she can hear Edward. At first that calms her, but only a half moment later she has to wonder exactly why Edward is close enough for her to hear him, but not actually with her. Does he not know that she's hurt? "Edward?" she asks, her voice a bit stronger but this time obviously confused. What would be going on that would make him leave her alone in his car in this condition?
Fortunately, while her recent memory stubbornly refuses to be found, her skills are still intact. So it isn't difficult for her to piece together the headache, loss of memory, and the fact that she's pretty sure she just regained consciousness and diagnose herself with a concussion. Minor brain damage - how wonderful. At least she knows that means this headache should gradually ease off. How did it happen anyway?
A third voice interrupts her thoughts - Shawty's. And for reasons she can't place it makes her both relieved and anxious. Why, if she's with Edward, is Shawty here too? Normally she'd be with one or the other and never both. But clearly whatever is happening falls well outside 'normal'. And it's so frustrating not being able to remember anything. She definitely needs more information about her current situation, and since calling out doesn't seem to be working she decides to try opening her eyes again.
The light assaults her as if it was made of needles, but this time she's more motivated and forces herself to look around more. She doesn't see anyone - probably because she only checks what she can see without shifting around her head much and she's facing forward - but her eye catches on something else: the drying patch of bloodied fabric by her knee. That's strange; that's the only part of her that doesn't hurt. Wait - that must mean that she cut off her ability to feel it. Which isn't something she'd do unless it was very hurt, and that means that she's in more trouble than she thought.
A memory suddenly returns: she's sitting in a moving van, her arms handcuffed behind her. A man she doesn't recognize is looming over her. He wants to know about Edward. She's refusing to say anything. He pulls out a gun. Pain. They argue, he shoots again.
She pulls herself out of the memory, grateful for it in a way since at least it's something but also distressed because it's out of context and proves that she has every reason to be concerned about what's going on now. Who was that guy? How did she get from there to here? Does that have something to do with why Edward isn't with her? She couldn't have given in after that and said something, could she?
Fear - in a way, it isn't really a normal emotion for Nina. In many situations that other people would consider quite dire, she's able to keep a cool head and think her way through it. Her fear remains under tight control and she's able to keep herself from panicking. However, in order for her to do that she needs to be able to see and, more importantly, feel just how much control she has over the situation. Right now she doesn't even know what the situation is, let alone whether or not she has any control over it. So when the fear starts to build there is nothing to hold it back. In fact, her instincts at the moment only reinforce the idea that she ought to be very afraid right now. "Edward?!" she calls out again, this time with an edge of near panic to her voice.

His finger graced the question mark explosive as he glared at the girl. He mentally made the calculations of how far she would jump and how hard and what angle he could throw his cane so the sharpen point would pierce straight through her lung. Mathematics were a man's best friend after all. The formula appearing in his mind helped to numb him from the girl's snide disrespectful comments. She wouldn't be alive long enough to comprehend her last thought.
As he went to press the dotted spot of the question mark, he heard his name called out again. Damn it, Nina. Why couldn't you just stay in the car? Why couldn't the child brat had taken her death honorably so Nina could be in the care of a doctor? He visibly frowned when he heard his name called out in panic. He let go of the question mark, pulling an empty gloved hand from his pocket. He turned quickly in the direction of Nina. "I do not wish to ever see you," he bit out angry to the child as he stormed over to Nina. Hopefully, she understood his message. If I see you, you will be killed. Stay out of my affairs.
As he limped over to Nina in an angry strut, he felt his heart ache with worry. His emotions were in conflict. He did not know which to follow: anger or worry. She looked pale. She must be going into shock. Shit, Nina.
"Nina, I'm here, " he said bending on his knee quickly to reach out and touch her hand. He gripped it tightly hoping it would calm her down, even though his glove was disgusting with mud. He needed to get her into the car, but he couldn't ask Allen. If the girl tried something, he wanted the man to shoot her on the first inch of movement. The green car door was already swung open. He frowned before taking a deep breath. He moved Nina's arm as he lowered himself towards her. He then wrapped her arm around his neck. He put down his cane to the side and wrapped his now free arm under her knees. Most of her weight was still on the ground as Edward mentally prepared himself for this. Riddles started running through his mind as he quickly solved one after another. He couldn't focus on the pain. He had to focus elsewhere. He brought his mind to favorite riddle of tootsie pops. Then with a quick breath, he put weight on his bad leg and pushed his and her weight up. He then quickly took the two steps towards the car and put her down inside the back seat.
"You're lucky I enjoy a challenge," he muttered tiredly as the pain hit his leg like a flood gate with the lack of distraction. It was like dropping her had caused him to lose focus. He winced and gripped onto the top of the back seat. He tried to bring it under control, but it felt worst then it ever did in the past. One step at a time. One step at a time. He moved his hand to her leg and picked them up quickly so he could collapse himself in the seat. He put the legs on top of his lap. She needed to have the wound elevated. "Allen," he growled, "Get my cane, let's go." Lollipop. Need my lollipop.
Allen smirked at the girl. "Looks like I'm outta here cutie pie. Dinner sometime?" he asked, but didn't wait for an answer as he grabbed the cane and moved to the front side of the car. The gun never put away, but ready to fire at any second.

Shannon said nothing, she simply stood there, gaze trailing after Edward. Her lips formed a slow, small smirk as he progressed step-by-step towards where Dr. Stenet was. She understood very well, but she'd see just how long he could keep those words. Time was a funny thing to Shawty, a deity who cared not for personal feelings, and worked hand-in-hand with Fate. She could hold her tongue until this act of the play passed. If she was to stay away, there would be no trouble in that. Did he think she wanted to deal with him? She let out a soft laugh in derision at the thought.
As if. She quipped, but then she was looking at Allen. She flushed at his offer and the smile she gave him was much warmer, not a smirk at all, but one of kindness and an inherent shyness. She simply nodded to him, whether he saw it or not.
Maybe he'd asked her because he knew just as much as she did that Nina would argue for her back, but even so...surely Edward let him off the tether every so often and she'd love to talk with him in that context, catch a bite to eat. She crossed her arms and her present demeanor was a striking difference to the one she'd held when dealing with Edward. She had a calm, wise look on her face as she peered lazily at the vehicle that would take Nina to get medical assistance, and then she stared ahead, over warehouse and dirty pavement near the docks. She took deep breath, as if tasting the salty air of the harbor and shifted her footing ever so slightly. Then Shannon opened her mouth, her mouth pulling into an amused smile.
“Ya know, you can come out now.” Her eyes flickered a moment over her shoulder and from the shadows of a building a figure emerged.
The figure, a woman it was soon realized, strode to her side confidently. She stood nearly a foot taller than the slight woman and her tawny eyes caught the moonlight. She peered quietly at first between the vehicle and Shannon. Her hair was mid-length, a color just darker than sand. She couldn't be called a ruffian. She looked nothing like the beggars and filth that could inhabit such a place. She wore a pair of dark, straight-legged slacks as well as an equally mute jacket, steel gray. The only color that was noticeable was the bright, violet of the blouse she wore. She was built very femininely, though she had an athleticism about her and a mischievous, authoritative look in her eyes and body language.
She inclined her head to Shannon. “You're not concerned about him seeing me?” There was no apprehension in her rich voice, just curiosity.
Shannon shook her head as she turned away to begin moving towards where the woman had appeared from. “I've already been banished, or so he thinks, though I guess he could question your presence if he's even paying attention.” She didn't sound overly concerned. The woman was easily explained and if Edward had taken the time to know anything about her, perhaps he would already know their affiliation. Her companion snorted as she followed, but then her face became brighter.
“Well, that was very entertaining, I was glad he was lured away, though. I'd have hated to have to shoot a Gotham Rogue, but had he made his shot and it had found purpose, I'd have had to return fire. It would have been an act of war to us.” She smiled faintly and Shannon turned her head up to peer at the woman. She laughed softly. “I don't think he knows who I am, that's my fault. I think I led him to thinking that I'm no longer who I used to be.” The taller woman paused. “Technically that wasn't a lie then. You aren't who you used to be, except well, you are still short.” She grinned ruefully that the other's scowl. “But anyway...I think you did the right thing. He may have reacted even more sourly if you were to have told him you're the leader of the Gotham Sirens, you certainly don't look it at the moment, though.”
It was Shannon's turn to pause. “No, Melina.” She said as the woman now took the lead. “I look fine like this...it's too late to play dress with me.”
Melina just laughed, and both figures walked towards the shadows, seeming at ease, but all the time aware of anything that could happen.

A moment after her fearful call, Nina feels someone touch her and her eyes flicker over to see who it belongs to. "Edward!" she says one more time, sounding greatly relieved as she suddenly grows much calmer. He's okay, and since he's here that means that everything will be fine. Still, she frowns at herself, muttering, "What's wrong with me?" But the question is rhetorical - her emotions are in an unaccustomed state of turmoil since she's not thinking properly. Logically, she should neither have gotten that upset or be this calm now but, once again, she's not thinking properly - logic can only do so much for her at the moment.
So confused is she, that's she's really only partway aware of what he's actually doing now that he's here. Taking care of her, most likely, and her mind is still so muddled that she'd rather not have to think too hard about anything she doesn't have to. Which is why it's so unfortunate that no sooner does she calm back down that her instinct informs her that she's forgetting something. Of course, her instinct doesn't do anything nearly so helpful as to tell her what, exactly, she's forgetting.
Instead, it's the various scrapes and bruises, mostly around the joints, that protest when he picks her up. "I jumped out of a car?" she asks herself as she remembers. Why would she do a crazy thing like that? Ah yes! She needed to tell Edward something. Must have been important to jump out of a car for. Is that how she hit her head? But if that's the case, then she hasn't told him yet. So what was it?
She isn't done pondering that one until after she feels Edward lifting her legs onto his lap. Why would he do that? He must think that she's going into shock. Is she going into shock? She doesn't think so. Then again, she surprises herself when her whole body suddenly tenses again at the sound of Allen's voice, and without a conscious decision on her part she finds herself holding onto Edward's nearest arm as if looking for protection. The concussion? she asks herself with a frown as she deliberately loosens her grip on the arm.
But she doesn't let go; instead she holds it in both her hands in an attempt to make sure that Edward's listening. Because this is really hard and she definitely does not want to have to repeat herself. "I need to tell you something," she starts, "The FBI took my lab." But then she suddenly stops and a confused look crosses her face. "I already told you that," she mutters to herself, pausing for another moment to recall just what it was she's supposed to say now.
"My research, Edward. They took my work," she starts again, but there's another abrupt pause as her mind catches up with what she's saying. For a moment, she looks shocked as if she was just finding this out now, and then her face twists into a frown of pain. Before, she'd been angry, but that was before she'd been hit in the head and she can't quite manage anger and this headache at the same time. "I don't even have my laptop," she says hollowly, her eyes becoming distant, "Shawty is all I have left of it." She shakes her head, "That's why I jumped out of the car. But it's not why I was angry."
But then her eyes refocus back on Edward and she frowns sadly as she mutters, "You're not going to listen. I'm probably not even making sense - my head hurts so much!" She sighs and her whole body goes limp as she releases his arm again. "I give up," she adds quietly. At least right now, anyway - she's completely out of fight and at least she knows that Edward will get her fixed up. She doesn't really want to try doing anything else until this headache goes away.

Allen deposited his cane onto the floor of the back seat before shutting the door. Edward watched as the man rounded around the car to the driver side. As his eyes watched, he caught something in the mirror. Another woman had appeared and was talking to the obnoxious brat. How long had she been there? He frowned in annoyance. From the appearance and the causal conversation he could only assume that the woman was part of that Siren gang. He had thought she had gotten out of that line of work. His hand tightened on Nina's shin in frustration. The brat still associated with that dangerous crowd. She truly needed to be shot down like Old Yeller before her relations seriously hurt Nina. How could she still speak with them if she knew the risk? The riddles ran threw his mind in paranoia. He would have to chew over them at a later date. For now, he needed to get Nina back to his warehouse.
He had been so distracted by his internal fuming that he didn't notice Allen start the car or Nina's rambling until she gripped into his arm. His head snapped to the woman laying the backseat. She was repeating information that she had already told him. The blow to the head must have been harder than necessary. Of course his idiot henchman wouldn't know how to properly knock someone out without causing damage. He had to bite his tongue before he could snap at Allen. Nina had witnessed enough yelling for the day. He would wait until she was resting.
"Dear, it's okay," he said softly at her exhausted tone and her tired features. He reached out and grabbed her hand, that had been holding his arm, in his. His heart twisted at seeing her this way. She was always so fierce like a kitten who was born thinking it was a tiger. It was strange to watch it give up. He rubbed the toped her hand with his thumb. "You're with me now," he continued with a smile. It wasn't a full smile. It was forced a bit, but he wanted her to feel better so he tried. "And in two weeks we will be out of Gotham and away from this mess. I'll find your laptop so there will be nothing to miss," he finished, the smile becoming more natural. Yes, he would be out of Gotham and in Hong Kong. Let's see how the US government would handle the Riddler than. They would learn swiftly that you do not start a chess game with a champion.
