The following is a list of rules that are aimed at IC conduct and what we, the staff expect of ourselves ICly and of the players.
For characters with actual superpowers, the line may be hard to see. If you're ever in doubt, please ask a member of the staff so we might try to help you out in future cases. You don't have to think of every action as a matter of powergaming or not; use common sense. But if the issue comes up, the staff is here to help, and your fellow players should be willing to clear up issues as well.
If you are suspected of powergaming unintentionally, or other players complain, the staff will send you a message and this will be your first and last warning. If you seem to be purposefully doing it to annoy others (and it's easy to tell when this happens), there is no warning; that's it, you're done. Powergaming is treated as a zero-tolerance issue here.
[/li][li] Since we are playing as characters that generally already have a history and their conduct written out for us to study, please stick to that. Batman isn't going to wander around Gotham with a baseball bat beating the bejeezus out of civilians for no reason. The Joker isn't going to all the sudden realize what a jerk he is and stop killing people. If you really don't know how the character acts, do not apply for them. It's better for everyone to have a player with a pretty sizeable knowledge of the character they're playing.
[/li][li] Super brutal murders are not going to be tolerated here. If the staff finds that your posts are a little too gory or if we're getting complaints about them, we'll let you know. Violence is unavoidable here, but use your common sense to figure what others may be comfortable with.
[/li][li] Swearing is allowed, but it is not encouraged and if you use it excessively, you'll get a warning. Try to stay away from the F-bomb especially. Those will be tolerated less.
[/li][li] Again, remember that the rating here is PG-13. You don't see everything in a sex scene in a PG-13 movie, do you? Then you don't read it here. This especially is not going to be tolerated, because not everyone here is guaranteed to be over the age of 18 and that'll just cause problems for everyone. Kissing, hugging, some cuddling and stuff is fine. Remember: It is not against the rules to have your character and another get all intimate and whatnot. What is against the rules is typing it out and posting for all the world to see. First offense = bannhammered.
[/li][li] Keep all OOC chit-chat to a minimum. We have OOC threads for a reason.
[/li][li] TALK TO EACH OTHER. Get plots going! Do something! The staff will occasionally come up with forum-wide plots that everyone can, and are encouraged to join if they'd like, but you guys, the players are going to make up the vast majority here. Don't wait up for us. If you've got an idea, post it in the 'Ideas' thread or PM buddies and get stuff going. Don't just mellow out and die.
This also applies to talking out content agreements for scenes that can involve violence. Make sure it's okay if so-and-so gets a busted up face. Don't assume. Assuming makes an ASS out of U and ME.
[/li][li] We understand that real life happens and sometimes people get too busy to post. However, we expect everyone to follow our Activity Rules. We do occasionally allow exceptions, but those need to be arranged ahead of time and may not be granted in all cases.
[/li][li] Players are normally allowed a total of three characters. The first character must be a canon character - no applications for an original character will be considered until their player has a canon character. Players are normally allowed up to two canon characters. Again: Canon Characters are those that already belong in the DC Universe like Batman, Catwoman, and the Joker. Original Characters, or characters of your own creation, are those that could realistically fit within the DC Universe.
We do allow exceptions to this on a case by case basis by asking an administrator for permission first. Whether or not you'll get permission is largely influenced by your activity, which characters you have, and which character you want. Extra characters are not given to players if they are not already active with all their current characters - if you're neglecting one, you'll instead get a suggestion to replace it with the new one instead. Also, you will not be given permission to have more than two very popular canons, as we want to allow other players to have the opportunity to play one of them. The admins also reserve the right to reject extra characters for any other reason.[/li][/ul]
If you think that something should be added to this list, or you have a question about a particular rule, please contact an administrator.
- Absolutely NO powergaming will be tolerated. In an environment such as this, it may be easier to slip into the ungodly realm of powerplaying/gaming, and that's never a good thing. We understand that sometimes mistakes happen and people are misunderstood, but please, communicate with those that you are playing with to make sure things are alright. Some examples would be:
