((OOC: Takes place before the FBI Raid on Crane's place))
Wandering...that was all she was doing..wandering through darkness that felt like a thick enveloping mist..she couldn't see, didn't know what she was looking for...and she was lost.. A figure loomed out of the darkness, almost darkness itself..she was inexplicably terrified of this figure...always froze, unable to move..he was coming closer...closer..!!
Rachel sat up in bed with a gasp, her heart pounding, eyes wide, breathing hard. She reached for the nearest light, on the table beside her bed. Turning it on, the room was filled with a soft light, chasing away the shadows, pushing them into the corners. She sighed, looking around the room, reassuring herself that nothing was out of place, that nothing was wrong.
Slowly climbing out of bed, Rachel groaned as her head pounded in protest. She had been in bed for almost two days, and missed those two days at work..not that it mattered to them, because most of their employees had stopped coming anyway. Rachel had never felt so sick before. What she had originally believed to be a simple cold had been something with a mix of stress-induced headaches and possibly a stomach bug.
The fever had been the worst..bringing nightmares and hallucinations. She still wasn't sure what had been a dream and what had been hallucination, but she didn't think it mattered. The past couple nights, she had had the same wandering nightmare/dream, always with the unidentifiable figure that she was terrified of, for unexplained reasons.
Rachel padded into the kitchen, getting water heating for a mug of tea. She stared out the window, looking at the dark night and the 'mist' that was made up of rain and snow. She burned her hand while pouring the water into the mug, and flinched. After putting her hand under cold water from the faucet, Rachel headed into the living room, curling up on the couch. She hoped the headache would ease, and that maybe, she could get a little more sleep without the same nightmare visiting..

Rachel woke up, and looked at the clock by the lamp near the couch. It read 10:14pm.. She sat up, and rubbed her eyes, looking around. She knew she didn't have to, but she felt responsible to make up the missed work. She would go in, then, and try to sort through a few more filing cabinets. She stil felt horrible, but maybe focusing on work would make the nightmares and hallucinations stop. She put her cup into the sink, and grabbed her jacket, heading outside.
She locked the door, and walked down the stairs to the street-lamp at the edge of the sidewalk. Her head ached, and she felt sure it was going to be a long night..

The Scarecrow had put a lot of thought into tonight. Going after Miss Dawes was not something that would come lightly. They had previous encounters before, most unpleasant. He had worked against her in many cases to get the patients he wanted into his wing of Arkham Asylum. Tonight wasn't about Arkham however. Tonight would be about the FBI that had invaded the city.
At this point The Scarecrow didn't know very much about the operation. He had been laying low for many months trying to disappear from the world. As a result he didn't know much about who exactly was running Gotham now a days.
He stood in the shadows at a turn into the alley next to Miss Dawes's apartment. His original plan was to watch when she came in and out. He fought with himself over the idea of going up to her apartment and letting himself in. Though it would be better if he could catch her in a more venerable position, to have her do what he wanted. He was after information from her, information about the head of the FBI's investigation into Gotham. The Scarecrow wasn't sure is Rachel knew anything about it or not, but he would find out.
Through the mask he exhaled slowly seeing someone leaving the apartment. It was Miss Dawes. The Scarecrow smiled from the darkness and adjusted his needled glove on his right hand.'Plans change' He thought to himself. Making sure that he had a good distance behind her he stalked her from the shadows of the streets. There was only one place Miss Dawes would go this time of night, back to work.
The Scarecrow thought about the many camera's that would see him at the DA's office. There may even be some kind of late night security. This would be an issue he would deal with if necessary but if not he would rather catch her before she made it there. His paced quickened as he saw her coming to a clearing for an alley, it would be the perfect chance to take her off the street. Like a shadow in the night he attempted to grab her from behind placing his gloved has over her mouth and the other around her waist. If he could he would drag her into the ally.

Rachel pulled her coat tighter around her, shivering. Even the warmth of its weight could not keep her from feeling cold. She hated being sick...she didn't usually get sick, and this was one of those rare times when she did. It made her miserable, which was why she had spent most of her sick days in bed, buried under blankets. And the nightmare....
She shook her head, clearing the image out of her mind. It still hovered, though, just beyond her conscious thoughts. She could feel it..that mist, the dark opaque mist...and the figure...that inexplicable paralyzing fear he caused her to feel...what did it mean? She frowned, driving the image away again.
"It probably means I have an overly-vivid imagination when I'm sick.." she said, thinking out loud. "Thanks to a fever.." She glanced back, feeling as if something was not quite right. Seeing nothing out of the ordinary, she continued walking, seeing an intersection up ahead, one lane leading off into an alley. She headed for the intersection, moving closer to the alley to avoid a parked car near the sidewalk.
She still had that nagging feeling, as if something was coming after her, but she hadn't seen anything to prove that it was more than just a feeling. "Maybe it's that stupid nightmare...it's getting to me.."
Glancing around again as she side-stepped the car, she put her hand on the Taser in her pocket, just in case. Alleys were not known for safety..
She was suddenly grabbed from behind, and she struggled. Despite her efforts, which weren't that impressive since she was still sick, and weak from it, she was dragged into the alley. She made a desperate attempt to pull out the Taser, getting it out into the open...not that it would be of much use against an attacker in the way she was being held. She couldn't move... The gloved hand that had clamped over her mouth, and the arm tight around her waist did nothing to help..her heart was pounding a startled rhythm...it was quickly becoming panic, as she remained held in a restraining position.

Tearing down the alleyway, Joker spun the wheel. The engine was giving all it had and the wheels were working even harder. A bank truck wasn't exactly the easiest thing to drive but to Joker it was a walk in the park. Well, it seemed that way anyway. He roared with laughter as the trucks sides were alight with sparks than danced from brick work.
The alley had seemed like the less crazy option of driving over a stinger. If this lumbering piece of crap had driven over that, it would be back to the asylum for a hot cup of Joe and another being by the most manly homosexual Joker had ever encountered. "Not today boys!" Joker shouted from the cab window as he sailed by the road block that was prepared for him and into the alleyway.
The truck careered into a parked car and reduced it to a ball of flaming scrap metal, continuing down the alleyway. Joker laughed so hard he nearly didn't notice the scene infront of him. A man and a woman were struggling in the gloom ahead. A mugging perhaps, possible rape? Joker didn't really care. He slammed his hand into the horn several times as the headlamps from truck began to light up the pair. It was then that Joker recognized the fellow costumed criminal before him. It was Scarecrow.
"Hey Crane, out the way! I don't got no insurance! He bellowed in a scream of laughter as the truck began to race toward them.

His back was to the wall holding his struggling prey by her body and her mouth. She would want to be careful struggling too much around his needled glove, she might hurt herself. The perceptive Scarecrow noticed the tazer that she was so desperately trying to use. Until he had her calm, being directly in front of her was not an option. But why would he want her calm? Her fear was far too enjoyable. “We need to talk Miss Dawes..” The distortion from the mask crackled out to her.
He paused and held her for a moment, wanting to torment her further he tried again to speak to her. However, it was interrupted by the screeching of tires and crashing objects. Like a deer in the headlights the Scarecrows eyes widened as he saw the truck blazing towards him and his unfortunate hostage. He would be unable to drag her out of the ally with him in time. Not that he was too concerned with her life more than his own. In the position that he had her, he had little choice but to save her with him.
The quick thought of The Scarecrow saw the small crevice in the ally used to break apart two windows. It would be his only choice. In one fluid movement he rolled Rachel and himself into the small hole slamming his back hard against the wall. The Scarecrow pulled back as tightly as he could on her to keep them both from being obliterated from the truck. It scraped by with sparks flying everywhere around them.
The distant laugh was none other than The Joker. Here to ruin his plans tonight. Still he would get whatever information he wanted out of Rachel, if the Joker wanted to join in her despair, he would stop his truck. The Scarecrow exhaled slowly loosening the crushing grip he held on Rachel previously. It was still tight enough to hold her in place.

Rachel struggled against the person holding her. The image of the figure in her nightmares rose up in the forefront of her mind, and she knew that this had to be why she had seen him. She was suddenly very aware of the needles on the figure's one gloved hand, and she froze. Her heart was in overdrive already, because she couldn't move. The voice that spoke in her ear was chilling, the voice of nightmares...she gasped against the glove over her mouth.
The sound of a blaring horn and tires screeching caught her attention. She jerked, seeing the truck barreling towards herself and her captor. She panicked, unable to move. Suddenly, she was jerked back by the person holding her, and they fell into a small opening in the wall, a tiny alley off the alleyway. The truck roared past, and she remained still, stunned a bit.
She realized the person was still holding her, but much more tightly. She struggled a bit in panic...the grasp was too restraining..and he loosened his grip, going back to the original closeness he had had before.
She was breathing hard, her heart racing. Every nerve seemed to be shaking...she had recognized the laugh from the driver of the truck..Joker. He had yelled at her captor....the name Crane..?! Dr. Jonathan Crane?! Her mind was spinning as it worked to make sense of this. Her head wasn't feeling so good, and she felt like she was going to drop if he let go...dizziness was taking over for a minute....

A whisper. A hair's hair. The skin of the teeth. Call it what you will but they'd done it, they'd actually done it. Scarecrow managed to drag his captive into the finest of spaces in the brickwork corridor as Joker came soaring passed. The Clown Prince stared open mouthed as the couple that were previously in real danger, tucked themselves out of harm's way. "Bravo!" Joker applauded as the truck continued to charge forward.
It was only a split second after Joker turned around from admiring Scarecrow and his pure athleticism that he noticed a new problem. A solid brick wall that was drawing ever closer. In a blind panic, Joker yanked at the hand brake and slammed his foot to the very floor of the truck, sadly to no avail. The metal monstrosity careered through the brick wall, coming to an abrupt halt after the sheer force. Kicking at the cab door, Joker leapt out of the driver's seat and into what appeared to be a Chinese family's living room. He stared at them wild eyed for a moment before kicking the truck's grill lightly. "No need to worry. That'll buff right out..." He quipped to the Asian family with a smile of pure malice as he exited the conveniently placed hole.
The smoking ruin of the armored bullion truck he was driving lay in the alleyway, half eaten by brickwork. The bodywork was severely dented and most of the paintwork had been taken clean off. It was a fact, that van wasn't going anywhere. "Great..." Joker mused, lifting his arms to shoulder height and letting them fall clumsily to his side again. "...I'm only third party, fire and theft. Now whadda I do" He chuckled wildly to himself as he drew a knife from his coat pocket, flipped in the air, caught it and advanced on Crane. "So..." He called once he drew with shooting distance of the pair "What we havin?"

Now calmer from the adrenalin rush of the situation. His head turned slightly to Rachel's ear. “You will tell me everything you know about the FBI's operation and who is leading it..” The Scarecrow demanded of her in a forceful whisper. It wasn't a request and with The Joker being near he wasn't going to tolerate her staling.
What his intentions were with Miss Dawes he would have rather kept from The Joker. Though with him steadily approaching it seemed he was going to find out one way or another. The Scarecrows expression didn't change as he saw the clown pull out the knife. His body turned with Miss Dawes and inched her every so slightly forward and out of the crevasse. “I have no business with you Joker...You should get back to your mangled car..” The distorted voice of The Scarecrow stated to the clown in front of them.
He kept Miss Dawes's body steadily in front of him. If the Joker wanted to approach in a hostile manner it would be more likely he would hit her than himself. One thing that he knew about the joker was his unpredictability. The man was long gone from his mind being in any state of stability. The Joker was interrupting this crucial night for his plans, but plans change, he may be useful to him yet. After all he may scare Miss Dawes just enough to get what he wanted out of her. The very thought of fear brought a smile to the mask. Now if only he could put the Joker in the same state of fear.

Rachel's mind struggled to focus, and succeeded. Knowing that this person was Crane oddly enough somehow didn't surprise her. It wasn't the Scarecrow that really scared her right now, although 'he' was doing his fair share..it was the fact that the Crane she had rivaled against so many times on cases was a much darker, scarier person than she had originally thought. The cold stare..the casual attitude about the rumors of testing on inmates...those had been flashes of the real him..the cold, terrifying side of the man known as Dr. Jonathan Crane.
She shuddered as his voice spoke into her ear. She struggled a bit, trying once more to get free. He wasn't going to get anything freely.. surely he knew that. After all, this was Crane she was up against...almost like the old days in court...except that he had needles, and this was no courtroom. "I can't tell you anything...even if I could, I wouldn't. Not of my own free will..and you should know that, Crane..we worked against each other long enough..." she said in reply to him.
When they moved out of the small niche that Scarecrow had saved them in from the truck, she noticed the figure walking toward them. Joker had crashed his truck...and was coming their way now. She struggled in Crane's grasp, but feebly, as her head spun for a moment. She hadn't taken the medicine the doctor had given her...he had offered a shot, but she had chosen the pills instead...and hadn't gotten around to taking them. She was beginning to wish she had..
"I shouldn't have tried to go to work.. she murmured out loud to herself.. Crane was keeping her in front of him, and Joker was getting closer. He had a knife...and Crane had needles. This night was just getting worse and worse..

The steps stopped. The Joker paused. He looked around mockingly to see if anyone else was near by when Scarecrow addressed him. He looked confused and pointed to himself before responding. He patronizingly closed his eyes, smiled and waggled his finger at Crane as if he were understanding what he was saying for the very first time. "Is this one of those times you try to scare me again old boy?" Joker spoke with an accent, a cheap impersonation of Sean Connery. Knife in hand, the Lord of Laughs approached Crane and the woman. He looked at them both and than the girl once more. She was stunningly beautiful, a real prize for any man. Joker pondered the situation at hand and wondered if Crane had already made this hypothesis and tried to claim the woman for himself. He chuckled as he was finally level with them both, towering over The Scarecrow by a good 5 inches. Crane wasn't a small man but then again, Joker was quite tall.
A gloved hand brushed the brown hair of the woman out of the poor creature's eyes. He smiled sinisterly at her and placed her hand on her side. She winced as The Joker lowered his face to ear of hers and whispered softly to her. "Don't be afraid of the old Crow behind you..." He lifted his head. "It's me you really should be worrying about" He smiled eerily at her again.
"So Doc, is it? Are you trying to scare little ole' me again? You noticed I did say 'again' right? Yeah, course you did. Because you remember last time don't you? You remember what happened..." The Joker drew closer to The Scarecrow and ran a gloved finger over the knife wound on the left side of his rib cage. A wound that was only just recently healing. "So, if you were ever trying to pull that stunt again, you'd better play your hand differently. Unless you want those slits in that pretty mask of yours to be new permanent features on your actually face of course. Infect, because I'm feeling generous, I'll help you out..." The Joker began to role his left sleeve up to elbow height exposing his pale white forearm. He and Crane both knew full well that a dose of the Fear Toxin that was pumped directly to the veins could result in fatal consequences.

The Scarecrow jerked Miss Dawes some as she denied him the information he wanted. “It would be better for your health if you did as I said. Tonight you have gotten lucky however..” He whispered softly and lowly into her ear. He didn't want The Joker to have any part in knowing what he was doing. No, that was something he needed to avoid.
His attention focused back on the joker now watching his every movement. The Scarecrow stood his ground as he steadily approached them. He was mocking him. The situation was becoming worse quickly. Breathing slowly he remained calm as the joker approached and whispered to his captive. He held her in place, for now letting the Joker do as he pleased with her. His mind was still running about with exactly what to do. Plans change...Hopefully The Joker wouldn't look too deeply into the situation and believed he was just here to harass Miss Dawes.
His eyes met Jokers as he walked around them now moving to his side. The Scarecrow didn't move he would let him play his games. Then his fingertip ran oh so carefully over a painful scar. A mistake that he would have rather not made. His skin tightened for a moment and winced slightly at the threat, he wasn't afraid, of course not. It was more of the failure that had proceeded in what he had tried to accomplish with The Joker last time. Turning on him and using the fear toxin against The Joker lead to the wound.
His eyes turned down to the pale arm of The Joker. It was a cruel joke indeed. When he previously tried to use the fear toxin on The Joker it had no effect at all. To this day he couldn't figure out why. Not that he gave him any time to figure it out either. The Joker was quite upset with him afterward. Thinking about it made the muscles in his rib cage tense. “You don't scare me Joker....” He stated as he moved his fingertips in the needles glove adjusting them. He moved them to her mouth and cupped it tightly making sure she could still breath. The Joker wasn't getting anything out of either of them tonight. “I said...I have no business with you” The distortion from the mask dared The Joker, without the toxin he would have to resort to intimidation.

Rachel was not at all happy with the situation. She was being held tightly in place by Crane, and she couldn't move. His voice in her ear was chilling, but she was more focused on the approaching Joker. He was smiling as he addressed Crane. Scarecrow the mental voice reminded her. As Scarecrow, there was no telling what he was capable of. She struggled a bit, and then froze as Joker turned his attention to her, moving closer. Her heart pounded..what was he going to do?
When Joker simply brushed the hair out of her eyes, she felt a small sense of relief. This was then replaced by a bit of surprise and a tiny bit of confusion as he leaned close, and she flinched a bit when Joker whispered in her ear. What did he mean? His smile was eerie, and she decided she'd rather not know what Joker meant by 'worrying about him' instead..
The conversation between Joker and Scarecrow made her curious despite the situation. When Joker touched Scarecrow, she could feel him wince. Had he been hurt recently, then? And had it been Joker who hurt him?
She was startled when Crane/Scarecrow put his gloved hand tightly over her mouth again, and was about to make a muffled protest when she noticed the needles by her face..he was covering her mouth with the needled glove... She inhaled through her nose, almost a gasp, but that would require a free mouth. She stared at the needles, and then closed her eyes, wishing for the second time that she hadn't decided to go to work...

Without warning, a well-aimed smoke bomb was dropped right between the advancing Joker and hostage wielding Scarecrow with DA assistant Rachel Dawes in hand. The Dark Knight had been on patrol despite the interfering FBI within Gotham. Now that the Bat had access to the whereabouts and communications of the Feds, he was moving much more freely and with swift force in Gotham – especially since his return from China. Seeing his long-time childhood friend under duress and especially at the hands of two of Gotham’s most revered rogues, the boiling rage that filled the grim Guardian of Gotham seeped out in his stealthy, powerful movements as he honed in on the scene before him.
“Let her go!”
His dark snarl echoed through the growing plume of obstructive smoke. Twin batarangs were thrown as the Bat descended down from the smoky darkness that now enveloped the scene. One batarang was aimed right for Joker’s eternally smiling face, the other batarang aimed for Scarecrow’s mask-covered head; each bat-shaped shuriken thrown to buy the Bat time to angle in on the situation and get Rachel out of danger as fast as possible.

Joker smiled. He moved on Scarecrow and began to laugh hysterically. "Take me down to the Paradise City..." Gripping the knife handle between his spindly fingers, he readied the blade. "Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty..." He winked at the woman. "Oh won't you please take me home... Joker took the knife and slashed out, severing one of the pipes pumping the toxin into Scarecrow's needles. The nauseous fumes spilled into the alleyway as Joker ducked and fired his posie's acid directly into his opponents mask and laughing as the air filters began to bubbled and melt.
The gasses began to fill the alleyway as a smoke bomb exploded, billowing smoke from the crevasse. Joker laughed once more as he second guessing the Dark Knight's oncoming assault and launched his knife into the air, colliding with the batarang. The world then turned dark as Joker gave in to the Toxin's delusional effects. The original FEAR had no effect on him, this must be a new strand.
The blackness was broken by a White light. Joker heard a voice speak to him. He recognised it as his own.
"One fine day; in the middle of the night
He looked down at his torso.
"Three dead men got up to fight...
He drew his revolver stuffed into his belt.
"Back to back, they faced each other..."
He aimed into the light and cocked back the hammer.
"Drew the swords and shot one another..."
He squeezed the trigger and fired three shots into the light. The White exploded as if it were a lightbulb. A new world began to unfold before him...

The familiar song rang through rang through his ears as The Joker moved around him. There was never any telling exactly what The Joker would do. Even for a brilliant psychiatrist like himself he couldn't quite figure the clown out.
His fingertips moved slightly over Miss Dawes's mouth still trying to hold her amongst whatever The Joker was planning to do. As the pipe was cut severing any pressure between the capsules in his brace and the serum in his needles it began to spray everywhere. Having bigger concerns than Miss Dawes he threw her to the side as it happened. It was likely since he was holding her mouth with his needled hand that she got someone of the toxin around her face.
Being that they were outside and his toxin was in it's serum form the toxin wouldn't be dangerous it were just to spill out onto the floor. Now getting it into any eye or the mouth would be different. This form had to be ingested in some way. Fumes from the serums itself could have effect as well but it would have to be because it was very close.
When the toxic acid from the posie hit the external filters of his mask as a reflex he brought his free hand up and threw his mask off. In the confusion he staggered backwards it was only at that moment he realized even without the mask he still couldn't see at all. Smoke? The gravity of the situation poured over him, it was The Batman. The Joker and The Batman in one night. Hearing the all too familiar sound of the batarang he lifted his brace up to his face in and effort to protect himself. With the motion brought the spraying toxin closer to his face and he took a shot of it. A small amount of what was left hitting him in the side of the face.
That wasn't good. Through the smoke he continued to look around him and attempt to click the brace off his wrist letting it fall to the ground. It was no use to him now. With that he took the end of his sleeve and attempted to clean however much toxin had gotten on his face off. He was careful not to rub too close to any openings, but the way that it had gotten on him there was no telling.
Now without his mask and without his serum toxin he only had one way left to defend himself. His eyes shot back and forth through the smoke still trying to back out of it. He could hear the ramblings of a madman somewhere within the cloud. Hopefully both of them would take care of each other ad he could get away. Miss Dawes could be taken care of another night.
Something felt different about him. He tried to look down at his hands through the smoke with little luck. He could see somewhat close to him but it wasn't enough to make out anything more than a few inches away. Dr. Cranes hand which did hold the needled glove that night was soaked him his toxin. He swallowed taking a few more steps back, he felt his eyes dilate and the world become a bit darker. His ears filled with the sound of beating wings...was it The Batman?...
